ISAAC WAS A MAN OBEDIENT

If there is something that most people struggle with, that is, both believers and non-believers, it is with obedience. It is as if there is something in human nature that stops us from following the instructions that another person gives us.

This is something that happens, because maybe the factor that we were created to govern the earth influenced us, but definitely people do not like to be given orders. This is something that I have proven over the years in my secular career, as well as in my ministry as a pastor.

But the great reality is that God gives us orders that we must, and have, to fulfill; Since as Christians and children of God, we have to be obedient to our Father. Because the reality is that obedience is the key to receiving blessings. So this will be the topic that we will be studying today. Today we are going to learn about the importance of obedience, and the blessings that obedience produces.

Now, when we study close to the prophets, disciples, and apostles, that is, the people who made the difference and were greatly blessed by God, we soon realize that the common characteristic that all of them shared was obedience.

Among many of the biblical characters we can find, we find Isaac, who is one of the three patriarchs of the Israelites. For those who do not know much about this man, Isaac was the son of Abraham, father of Jacob and grandfather of Joseph.

This offspring is part of one of the most impressive dynasties found in the Bible. Most of the book of Genesis talks about the lives of these four servants of God, but tonight I want us to focus on Isaac, his obedience, and the benefits of his obedience. So with this in mind, let's now turn to the word of God.

Genesis 26: 1-6 - Later there was hunger in the earth, in addition to the first hunger that there was in the days of Abraham; And Isaac went to Abimelech, king of the Philistines, in Gerar. 2 And the Lord appeared to him and said, "Do not go down to Egypt; dwell in the land that I will tell you. 3 Live as a stranger in this land, and I will be with you, and I will bless you; for I will give all these lands to you and to your descendants, and I will confirm the oath that I made to Abraham your father. 4 I will multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven, and give your descendants all these lands; and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in your seed, 5 because Abraham heard my voice, and kept my commandment, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws. 6 Isaac lived in Gerar.

The reality is that there are stages in our lives that we would surely prefer to forget. We are talking about things like romantic disappointments, unjustified dismissals, family losses, just to name some of the many other events that come into our lives without prior notice, and that in most cases last longer than we would like.

But in spite of the circumstance or situation that we may go through, the believer has the certainty that he has a God, who like Isaac, speaks to us in our need, and tells us what we should do. What happened in Isaac's life at this moment in history? As we can see, Isaac had to leave his comfort; Isaac had to leave the land he knew, and it was then that God spoke to him. Like Isaac, God wants to speak to us, his children, and we need to be attentive to His message. But for this to happen, we have to be willing to leave our comfort. I say this because many times we become so settled in our relationship with God, that we stop listening to His word. We settled ourselves so much in our mediocre Christian life that we stopped listening to His voice.

As faithful followers of Jesus Christ, we need to understand that when God gives us an order, that is, forbids us to do something, it is simply because it does not suit us. But the problem is that even though we know very well that God has good plans for us, on almost every occasion we have plans different from God's.
