Weapons from fantastic films that may appear in the future

in #science6 years ago

Creators of film fantasy do not stop frightening the audience with exotic weapons: memory erasers, cyborgs. Some of them, if they will be created, are, most likely, not in our century, others are already a reality.

Hollywood from year to year presents in the fantastic blockbusters the most incredible weapons. But are they so incredible? The military-industrial complex (MIC) thanks to the technical progress does not stop the development of weapons, which until recently would have seemed fantastic.

Here are just some of the weapons from the fantastic films, which in the near future thanks to science can become a reality:

Light Swords

Fans of the famous series of films "Star Wars" have long dreamed of lightsabers of the Jedi and the Sith. More recently, scientists have discovered that the energy blade may well appear in the future.

In September 2013, researchers from Harvard and MIT found a way to collect photons - particles that do not normally interact with each other - into a photon molecule. Until then, such an opportunity existed only in theory.

From such photon molecules, in principle, not far and before the lightsabers. For the creation of the molecules of physics, rubidium atoms were placed in a vacuum chamber and cooled with the help of lasers almost to absolute zero. Then laser pulses were launched into the chamber so that the photons, passing through the atomic cloud, transmitted energy to them.

Some experts believe that one day, with the help of such a process, it will be possible to create three-dimensional crystalline structures consisting only of light.

It is still far away, but the fact remains: the theoretical possibility of the appearance of light swords exists.

Cyborgs

The creators of fantastic films have frightened spectators since the genre was created by human and machine hybrids. Is it possible to create "bionic people", like Robocop or Terminator, today?

With the help of modern technology, bionic eyes and ears have already been created. At the University of Vanderbilt, a bionic exoskeleton was developed that helps disabled people with spinal cord injuries to move independently on their feet.

And this means that the creation of a walking, breathing, armed cyborg is a matter for the near future.

Electromagnetic bomb

Many probably remember the powerful electromagnetic pulse that the rebels in the movie "The Matrix" used to neutralize the Machines. The idea of a weapon that can disable any electronics, someone may seem fantastic, but electromagnetic bombs have already entered our lives.

Electromagnetic bombs of medium power can destroy all electronic devices within a radius of several tens of meters. Theoretically, you can use electromagnetic bombs over any country and with sufficient power, in a blink of an eye to send it to the Stone Age - without electricity and any electronic devices.

Miniature electromagnetic bombs can neutralize alarm systems in banks and large stores, plunge into chaos large stock exchanges and news agencies. It is rumored that in North Korea they are experimenting with the technologies of electromagnetic bombs to neutralize military electronics.

Memory eraser

The most powerful weapon agents Kay and Jay in the fantastic comedy "Men in Black" was a memory eraser. This device, the size of a pen, quietly erased human memory with a flash of light.

If such a device ever comes into being, it will certainly become a terrible weapon in the hands of special services, as well as criminals and terrorists. And although it is still far from creating an eraser, many researchers are experimenting with a change in human memory and have achieved considerable success in this field.

For example, scientists in New York have developed an experimental drug that, when taken, blocks the work of the PKM-zeta enzyme necessary to preserve most of the information received in the brain.

After introduction into the body, this medicine reaches the regions of the brain responsible for the memories associated with emotions and motor skills. So far, the drug has been tested only on laboratory mice, but scientists are confident that with the help of this technology can be manipulated and human memory.

Most likely, such studies will help in the development of drugs for the therapy of mental illness or Alzheimer's disease, but it cannot be ruled out that on their basis weapons will be created for the erasure and manipulation of memory.
