The Strange Behavior Inside of Fermi Bubbles in The Milky Way

in #science5 years ago

If you don't know, the Milky Way includes two gigantic opposite facing bubbles. One on the top and one under the Milky Ways disk. But lately, something very strange has been happening with them.

In the year 2010, experts in a team working for the Fermi Telescope noticed that two gigantic opposite facing bubbles are on top and under the Milky Way. They seem to come straight from the galactic center and are huge as they expand over twenty-five thousand years from the galactic center.

Because they were detected by the Fermi Telescope they were named Fermi Bubbles. So far, their origin is still a mystery. Truthfully, the only things we know about them is their shape and that they emit a lot of high-energy radiation. And now it seems they are a bigger mystery than we thought.

Recently, the Antarctic neutrino observatory IceCube detected ten super-high-energy neutrinos that seem to come from the Fermi Bubbles. This shocked the astrophysicist and it makes them think that inside of the Fermi Bubbles some strange sub-atomic particle interactions must be taking place. Its the only explanation of how these super-high-energy neutrinos could get created. But we have no idea what mechanism could create them.

Fermi bubbles cant be seen by the naked eye and even though they are truly gigantic they weren't discovered for a long time. Because of their location, we suspect that the supermassive black hole at the core of the Milky Way has to be responsible for them in some way. But our super-massive black hole isn't that active and we find it unlikely that at its current state it could create these massive and highly energetic objects.

One of the possible explanations is that some time ago, our supermassive black hole ate something very large and the bubbles are remains of its galactic lunch. But nobody is sure and the mystery of the Fermi Bubbles lives on.
