You Enjoy Coffee? New Study Claims Up To 25 Cups Per Days Aren’t Dangerous

The British Heart Foundation says that people who drink up to 25 cups of coffee per day don’t suffer from a heightened risk of heart attacks. At least this is what a study performed by the Queen Mary University on 8412 claims.

In the past studies linked drinking coffee with stiffer arteries that bring blood from our heart to other parts of the body. And when arteries stiffen the risk of a heart attack or of a stroke increases.

The results presented on Monday on a conference of the British Cardiovascular Society in Manchester prove the results of previous studies wrong. In the past studies often connected coffee drinking with bad heart health. This new study is part of a larger set of studies that analyzed different aspects of this widely favored drink that has become almost a ritual for many.

People have been separated into three distinct groups in the study – no. 1 – those who drink less than a single cup of coffee every day – no. 2 – those who drink one to three cups of coffee per day and last group – no. 3 – those who drink more than three cups of coffee per day. People who consume more than twenty-five cups of coffee per day were disqualified from taking part in the study. Yet, the British Hearth Foundation claims that no artery stiffening was detected even among those who drink such absurd levels of coffee.

Based on what professor Metin Avkiran says this study eliminates one of the potentially negative effects of coffee on our arteries. This is also supported by a previous study from 2018 that watched over roughly half a million adult Brits. That study concluded that people who drink coffee have a slightly lower risk of death compared to those who do not drink it.

The relation between drinking coffee and artery changes found by magnetic resonance and were corrected with regards to other factors such as age, sex, ethnicity, whether the person smokes, heights, weight, whether the person drinks alcohol, what diet they consume and whether they have high blood pressure.

On average the participants consumed five cups of coffee per day without any negative effects being observed by the scientists. The results of other research showed that coffee could reduce the risk of inflammation and make your body use insulin better.

The researchers also focused on other factors that could potentially impact arterial stiffness – such as smoking, consumption of alcoholic drinks and other known risk factors. Thanks to that they found that participants who were part of the “medium and heavyweight” of coffee consumers were more often men who also drank alcohol and smoked tobacco products more often.
