5 Lifestyle of Modern Men Lower Quality Sperm

The quality of sperm plays an important role in male fertility. Healthy lifestyle helps improve sperm quality.

Unfortunately, modern men's lifestyle if left unchecked, can actually damage the quality of sperm. The risk of difficult pregnancy is lurking, and lifestyle changes should be done immediately.

Here are 5 modern male lifestyle that decreases sperm quality:

1. Overtime

Overtime is synonymous with modern men who are trying to pursue a career. But a study by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Stanford University revealed that men who often work overtime, have hypertension or high blood pressure and consume more than one drug has poor sperm quality.

Their sperm count is also only about 39 million, whereas healthy men usually have sperm ranging from 40-300 million. Researchers say the male body that is often forced to work overtime will produce more steroid hormones such as cortisol.

2. Smoking

Smoking habits can damage sperm concentration. Sperm concentration itself is a sperm found in a number of semen. Research has shown that men who smoke have decreased sperm concentration by as much as 23 percent.

Not just concentration alone, the study also revealed that smoking can interfere with the ability of sperm to swim. And if sperm can not swim well, they will have difficulty to reach the egg and fertilize it.

In men who smoked, the researchers found a 13 percent reduction in sperm movement. In terms of form, smoking seems to also have an effect on the structure of sperm. This condition can also affect the ability of the sperm to be able to swim towards the egg.

3. Overweight

Another thing that lowers sperm quality is obesity. A study published by the Endocrine Society calls couples whose husbands are overweight are finding it harder to get children.

Scientists observed 65 couples attending a fertility clinic. Each week, male participants undergo training on nutrition and physical activity for a year. At the end of the study, men who have the most weight loss have a greater chance to fertilize a partner.

4. Less to eat fruits and vegetables

Allan Pacey, professor of andrology at the University of Sheffield UK, said the lack of awareness of men on a healthy diet has a major impact on the quality of sperm produced.

For that, Prof. Pacey agrees if couples want to have faster momongan better meet their vegetable and fruit needs routinely, with five servings of fruits and vegetables every day.

Experts believe both of these foods are rich in antioxidants that are useful for improving sperm quality, including reducing the negative effects of eating fatty or meat foods that can lower fertility rates.

5. Too much processed meat

A study conducted by Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health found a link between consumption of processed meats such as sausage and bacon with male infertility.

In a study that has been published in the journal Fertility & Sterility is conducted observations of 141 male respondents in the IVF program with each partner. These respondents were asked to provide information about their diet, including how much processed meat is consumed.

Dr Rebecca Sokol from the American Society for Reproductive Medicine added, the results of this study indicate that the type and amount of processed meat consumed by a man can affect the ability of sper.
