Do You Sleep More Than 8 Hours A Day? You Maybe Damaging Your Health

Excessive sleeping is connected with a higher rate of heart disease and even a higher chance of dying. At least that what the analysis of over 74 studies that included over 3,000,000 people.

Obviously, you should not read the title as the more you sleep the faster you will die. But you should read it as if you will be spending lots of the in bed you might be worsening your already existing health problems. These are the conclusion of scientists from the Keele University in Britain. The scientists found that sleeping more than 10 hours a day is associated with a 30% increase in premature deaths compared to 7 hour long daily sleep and a 56 % increase in the risk of dying because of stroke and a 49% increase in the risk of dying because of cardiovascular diseases.

But even this analysis has its limits. While 3 million people is an above average sample size to say the least the sleeping habits of the majority of the people haven’t been measured in a laboratory but self-reported thus probably aren’t completely precise. But the results still shouldn’t be dismissed. The bigger question is whether it is the too much sleep that is causing these health issues or whether these kind of health issues are making you sleep more. Either way, if you tend to be sleeping more than 10 hours a day it may be a good idea to visit your doctor for a consult.

Like you said this study isn’t completely precise and statistics themselves can be misleading but I think we can safely say sleeping for over 10 hours a day is probably not good for you. Whether for your health or your wasted time.
