Most Vitamin Supplements Are Useless

Many people eat some kind of food or mineral supplements. But a new research shows that the vast majority of them are useless – well apart from getting money from gullible people.

The results of the research that was performed on studies published since January of 2012 up to October of 2017 show that many of the popular multivitamin, vitamin C or calcium supplements don’t do anything to improve human health. They provide no benefits in terms of reducing the risks of cardiovascular diseases, heart attacks, strokes or even early death. The research was published in the Journal of American College of Cardiology and was performed by experts from the St. Micheal’s Hospital and the University of Toronto.

But there are a few that do provide advantages. For example, folic acid can reduce the risks of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. Or vitamin D, that is hard to get from food, can be a good choice for a food supplement if you, as many, suffer from its lack. On the other hand, niacin (a type of the B3 vitamin) and antioxidants carry an increased risk of early death. Experts think it is because niacin has a negative effect on blood sugar levels and the fact that people usually use too many antioxidants.

In the end, using supplements of any kind should first be discussed with your doctor. Otherwise, there is a risk of health problem – especially if you are using these supplements as a substitute for a healthy diet. No research so far shows that there is anything better than healthy servings of less processed plant food, including vegetables, fruits, and nuts.

Supplement without a healthy diet can never be beneficial thats why they are called supplements. They may pose any side effects but certainly they are essential.
