Dandelion Fuzz under the Microscope 🔬

Remember the suspected hawkweed seed we checked out under the microscope, which I had initially thought was a dandelion seed. https://steemit.com/science/@supersoju/hawkweed-seed-under-the-microscope Here I have a dandelion fuzz sample which we can check out to compare.

Checking out the sample we have here, the fuzz is similar but different to the hawkweed fuzz when you have a look closer. If you open the hawkweed seed post and compare its last gif to this gif below. You can see how similar they look from afar compared to when you look at it much closer. The sample we have here had been stained for better viewing.

The main differences that stand out to me are size, thickness and finish surface. The dandelion fuzz is thicker and bigger looking. It appears much stronger and the edges are much more defined. As in the pointy parts are thorn like and it has straight edges instead of flimsy jagged edges like the hawkweed. I guess you could say the dandelion fuzz is a lot smoother looking, despite the thorny parts.

Here is an image of them side by side for easier comparison since the gif of the hawkweed one cannot be paused. See how different they look close up? Pretty cool considering when we look at the fuzz with the naked eye, they look the very similar.
