Understanding Inside A Computer: A Binary

in #science6 years ago

Good day steemians, my article for today is all about binary in a computer so that you will learn something from it. This is a brief knowledge that i will share to you. It is also my first time to create an article like this, if you have any reactions or suggestions just comment.

What is a binary?

Binary is a numbering scheme that has only two possible values such as 1 and 0. They are most widely known as 1 (ON) and 0 for (OFF). Binary numbers look peculiar when you are new to it. It is used by digital computers to execute a calculation from the simplest to the most complex. It is also essential to be able to translate a value from one number system into another. Computers works in binary, meaning they store data and do calculations using only zeros and ones. The term bit is also known as Binary digIT

Why did they use binary instead of a decimal in a computer?

Binary system is overwhelmingly prominent for data processing. So it is suggested to have binary over decimal in some important contexts. Computers still regularly convert back and forth between binary and decimal because roughly all end-user displays are in decimal. The computers are in a definite states that provide a safety range for reliability and
limited amount of a basic circuitry, which conclude in a small amount of space, energy consumption, and cost.

Storage capacity, can use more in binary rather than decimal?

When you see a binary, it looks like the binary representation of a number 01110011011 uses up more space than its decimal a base of 10 representation 241. That is an 11 digits long in binary but in decimal it is only 3 digits long. The logic is that 241 is "smaller" rather than 01110011011 is because of the way we write and see it on the screen or on paper.

Raising the base will result to falling of the number of digits required to represent any given number, but taking directly from the previous point, it is impossible to make a digital circuit that conducts in any base other than 2, since there is no state between "on/1" and "off/0".

Conclusion

Binary is mainly the main source of translating a letter, numbers and etc. in a computer that we use today. The binary number system is the most simplest number system. It is also used to represent data for a digital and a computer. a power of 2 is a place value of each higher digit’s position in a binary number is increased.
