Google Killed Crypto Site CCN - What Now?

in #sct5 years ago

I was just about to turn in for the night. Yeah, but I work for a distributed company in a decentralized economy. So of course, that's a real low likelihood. And then I get this notification...

CCN IS SHUTTING DOWN BECAUSE OF GOOGLE

Now, I have no idea how to run a media news site. I've just written articles for a few. And honestly, they don't seem to pay very well, if at all! I'm guessing margins are pretty thin over at these kind of places. As capitalist monopoly power centralizes into the hands of a few Big Tech companies, it seems that those margins are getting squeezed even more. The old Netscape v. Microsoft and Zynga v. Facebook battles are being relived by the niche media companies that used to thrive off Google search traffic.

As in the aforementioned classic digi-battles, a smaller company sets up shop in the fat folds of a leviathan. Kind of like these birds on a hippo:

The Netscapes and Zyngas and CCNs of the world find nourishment in a little nutritious corner of the hippo's body, but when the hippo notices them getting fat off way too much of that good stuff... They take off in a dead run, sloughing off the little parasites via whatever means they can think of. Embedding their own version of the competitor into the very ecosystem they both live in, changing the API, changing the algorithm, changing the code... Whatever it takes. In capitalism, even the tiniest little sliver of margin is coveted by the whales. PSSSSTTT! Y'all don't tell the whales on STEEM this... at least until I become a Dolphin, m'kay?

I encourage you to go read the article mentioned above. It's basically a rundown of all the little tricks that Google can play now that it is the Undisputed King of the (Non-China) Internet.

That's why it's so freaking important what it is going on here like with @aggroed & @yabapmatt's steem-engine, @jack8831's SteemCoinpan, @minnowsupport's PALnet and all the other scotbot 2nd-layer communities that are sprouting up seemingly everywhere. Apparently, there are like 35 more on the way...

So here's a salute to everyone on the platform and a reminder to keep on BUIDL-ing.

THE ONLY WAY WE ARE GOING TO CHANGE THE WORLD IS IF WE DECENTRALIZE IT.

Have a good night, y'all... and

PEACE! ✌🏼

I think this sudden exit by one of the top crypto sites proves the massive opportunity that SteemCoinpan is looking at right now. Don't you think, guys? @sct.biz @jack8831

好牛掰,加油,有潜力的平台。
