The Steemit Search Problem

in #seo6 years ago (edited)

SEO is an important piece in the complex puzzle of getting your blogs found by readers on the internet. This term stands for search engine optimization. What does SEO even really mean? In simple terms Google, Bing, Yahoo and different search engines use crawler "robots" to scan the internet for index-able content. This content is stored and sifted through with complex programming algorithms, some even funded by the US Govt at times. These search algorithms are what ranks content when you make a simple "google search".

Steemit has major problems with SEO and content showing up to users upon major search engines. For example, if you want to search for a Steemit article, even if you use correct tagging that would pull up a YouTube video, you still won't be able to find your post on steemit.com. The same issue comes up with most sites that use non traditional SEO, including DLIVE, DTUBE, and Busy. One of the problems with our current search is we have competing factions in the way websites deploy optimization, and the way this data is processed by the search indexing systems themselves.

How can steemit.com and the user base, improve SEO to their content? This is not an easy question to answer. One solution is to build a search engine better than google's own. Not exactly an easy task to accomplish. so for the foreseeable future, Google will still carry out a majority of search requests for users. The power of search can directly influence entire populations to either consume the truth or be persuaded by false propaganda. This is an incredibly dangerous thing we have let happen over the years as people every day continue to get lazier and lazier and read less. A frightening trend that if continued could undermine the basic fabric of every day western life and freedom.

Even with Steem prices down, people are still interacting and powering up Steem Power. More importantly, they are still on-boarding new users into the platform. Although new user adoption will continue to be slow until the new hard fork changes are committed to. I can see a bright future in Steemit and the surrounding ecosystems. For example, AskSteem is a great project that is working towards building a powerful search engine powered entirely from the Steem blockchain. While the site functions well it still is not up to speed with google's backend, although with time I'm sure it can be refined.

I think if Steemit put their effort in a better search engine and more visibility on the main search engines then more small businesses would join steemit. As a real estate agent, I could benefit investing in Steemit and creating articles and generate more traffic to my website than PPC if we had this functionality.

That would open up all new use cases.

I agree, if not steemit maybe a 3rd party company or developer can come in to integrate steem blockchain into the search products they already offer.

I upvoted your newest post as this one is too old ^^ I actually keep a document of my post links. But it's easier to google keywords to find my old posts xD
Steemit seriously needs to make it easier to find posts in any way possible :)
Also a random button could be fun xD Click random to get a longer post based on a specific tag. Has to be long posts tho, counting characters, to avoid boring spam. ^^

Great idea. I'd love to have a random button. My sort of "steem random button" is going to steemd.com and it shows you what was put on steem in order for the past few minutes. I've found some killer stuff like that haha.

Haha my recent random was setting up gina bot to show posts mentioning "dragons" word xD haha so much weird stuff thoo

Yeah search is a big problem here...I didn't know about asksteem that is pretty good. I hope for a bright future also 😀

Thanks for your comment. We are still in the early days. I think just getting eyeballs on the content is the hardest part for the moment. I've used facebook, discord, and real life connections to do my promoting so far.

Has anyone recognized here that steemit stupidly destroys proper html-code by rewriting every html-tag to nonsense (have a look at the html-attributes... e.g. within the a-tag)? As long as this happens there will be no realistic chance to get a good/better google-ranking. The same goes for the images and the results of the google image search engine... as long as the img-tag is going to be rewritten to dada you need a real smart idea to be recognized outside the steemit-universe... at first glance (and without deeper background knowledge) I would say that steemit tries to build and keep a gated community. I dare to doubt that this leads to the goal...
