SevenDaysOutside challenge - BrickSaturday - North Parade Brickwork, Aberystwyth, Wales ...

The photo above shows you wonderful ‘mosaic-looking’ brickwork from North Parade in Aberystwyth, Wales. I believe the houses are late Georgian in style and some are grade II listed buildings considering their architectural and historical heritage inside.

As you can see the lower right window of the photo (currently an osteopathy business there, hence the spine designs) has a ‘modern’ picture window so I do not think that’s listed.

I found an interesting article about the use of different colour bricks here:

The late 17th and early 18th centuries were a high point in the use of brick. Their manufacture was much improved, with blended clay, better moulding and more even firing which lead to greater consistency in shape and size. The colours of bricks changed in popularity from red, purple or grey bricks fashionable in the late 17th century until 1730, when brownish or pinkish grey stocks replaced the hot colours. These were followed in the mid 18th century by grey stocks, and, by 1800, the production of yellow marl or malm London stocks, which were closer to the stone colour desired for a classical facade.

I took the photo back in July this year. I personally liked the bold use of three different colours in that pattern and how the shape of the brick affected an otherwise regular pattern shape.

I normally see stone houses where I live, then in towns I mainly see pebble-dashing rather than 'uncovered' brickwork.

Ooo i like the mosaic bricks too @cryptocariad. They are so nice to look at.

There was also quite a lot of variety between them, @marblely :D I looked at them and thought 'cross stitch'! ...

Ooo yes, cross stitch!! or tapestry knitting / crochet? :D

That's right.... sort of 'filet crochet', @marblely :D

These are enormous houses, aren't they? And very decorative. Have you done the full week challenge now? It might be nice to try one week. I noticed some interesting houses when I was out yesterday, not as large as these but very grand.

I only started the challenge on Tuesday, @shanibeer, but the prompts are not too hard for me :D
I'm not sure whether or they're houses/bedsits or offices - I'm curious to see inside and what they've done for accessibility !

Great #bricksaturday post @cryptocariad I too love the patterns also the details like the shingles over the bay windows

So much skill and work that went to all that details, @steven-patrick. I took the photo just out of interest and admiration for the building - I'm glad I could use it in a more public way with this photo challenge.

Absolutely stunning houses, the brickwork and bay (not sure if the word is ok... ) are really beautiful. The high contrast between the black tiles and the clay colored bricks is like a little mosaic :-D

They are very beautiful houses, @neumannsalva, and so much care gone into the facade of 'town' houses !
