Shadow Photo Contest-Round 52. 'The Man With No Seat.'.steemCreated with Sketch.

in #shadowphoto5 years ago

This is my entry for the current Shadow Photo Contest-Round 52- Theme: Night Shadows, organized by the lovely @melinda010100

The Man With No Seat.

In searching for a suitable photo for this contest I found these images of, "The Man With No Seat.' I have shared them before but for those who missed that post I have included them again here. Only the first photo is eligible for the contest.

A few months ago I enjoyed visiting my first night market at Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast of Australia. The markets are situated adjacent to the waterfront and the sound of the surf breaking upon the shore is a pleasant backdrop for these markets creating a very unique setting for a night market.

I love market shopping but I don't often attend night ones so this was a novelty for me. Little did I know just how much of a novelty. It was the crowd of fascinated onlookers which led me to, 'The Man With No Seat' and it is their shadows I was interested in for this contest.

How does a man sit on nothing for ages moving only his head from time to time to let people know that yes, he was, indeed alive? Ask away! But don't ask me because months later, I am still trying to figure it out.

Steve, the Silver man knew how to get attention, but not a word escaped his silver lips. I'd ascertained that he was real but what about his companion? Was it just a coincidence that the sharp, silver teeth on this scaly silver crocodile were bared with undisguised menace so close to the donation tin? I don't think so. Unless a donation was worthy of this 'act,' he was ready to snap off the hand of the paltry giver as quick as his owner could blink his silver eye-lashes.

I checked out 'The Man With No Seat,' from every angle. There was no chair beneath him. Nothing! Just thin air. Two inquisitive boys proved my point when they slowly walked behind him and moved their hands in sweeping motions beneath his silver clad butt and met with no resistance. Nothing! Just thin air!

I don't mean to leave you in the dark but, I can find no scientific explanation for this strange and inhuman phenomenon. Perhaps you have a theory you'd like to share with us? Be my guest. PLEASE!

Unreal! I found myself wondering if there might be some sort of structure inside his clothing that might assist his position, but I can't imagine what it would be! His leg muscles must be amazing! Thanks for entering Shadow Photo Contest Round 52- Night Shadows

Unreal alright Melinda and you were correct in your assumptions. Read the comments to find out how he does it. And of course, it is my pleasure to participate in your shadow contest.

Cool! I am glad @barbara-orenya let us in on the secret!

That's pretty cool amazing how these people can sit for so long without even blinking a eye !!

You have to see it to believe it @bigsambucca

It just amazes me how they can remain still like that for so long and have seen many around the Sydney area !!

It is certainly very entertaining to watch @bigsambucca

They are one of a kind that's for sure :))

What a strange statue :) Nice find dear Trudee, have a nice weekend!

This is no statue Erika. He is very much alive! Have a great weekend too, Thank you.

Ooooh......so that's how it is done. Ingenious! But I do wonder how comfortable it is when staying in that position for a long time. Thank you @futuremind for coming to my rescue. You're worth your wait in silver. (lol)

Awesome shots I am always amazed when I see someone like this how they can be in that position for so long is a feat I could never do I have trouble sitting or standing still for more than a minute LOL

He certainly held my attention JJ. I have received interesting information as to how he achieves that if you want to check it out in the comments.

I just went and read the comments some interesting thought son how they do it, I had been wondering if it was some sort of brace thing like in the video

I miss these type of street performers from back home. Gosh those leg muscles are amazing!!

Hello @mumma-monza Happy New Year! I hope all is well with you. When I think about it we do have a lot of street performers and buskers in Australia. It makes life interesting doesn't it? Many thanks for your welcome visit and support.

With or without a trick that man deserves admiration.
Nice choice for the competition!

I agree Neli. It certainly was an entertaining sight. Thanks for your lovely comments and visit.

Really cool! @trudeehunter

I think I know what is being done here, but should I say? I think exposing the secret might destroy the magic. 😛

Or could it be, that is really is magic?... 🔮

Yes....perhaps you are right @futuremind But is it fair to leave me in suspense?

For clues, look at the knees, and positioning of the legs.. 🤣

Ok ok, I don't want to leave you in too much of a state of suspense. Here's a video for you. It's not very long, but it will tell you the secret, and I don't know if it's just me, but this video is a little interesting/odd.. Enjoy 😋

Oh.....so this is how it is done! Mystery revealed! But I do wonder how comfortable it would be to sit like that, even with the assistance of this 'chairless chair,' for lengthy periods.

Thank you for coming to my rescue @futuremind You are worth your weight in silver. (lol)

You're welcome, I'm happy I could help. I only knew because I saw a silly advertisement for these at one point, and it was the first thing to come to mind.

I don't imagine it's very comfortable at all, and would be a joke in a factory setting as it's being marketed for, but I can't knock the company for trying.

Also I think he might have modified his a little because there is little evidence to indicate the presence of the device. He probably removed the pads altogether and was sitting on bare metal. 😳

Quite the testament to the man's character for self expression. No question this is uncomfortable, but the joy he likely derived from this made it all worth it. I'm sure he would be thrilled if he knew a post was made in his honor.

Nice chat @trudeehunter, thank you for your kind words. As always, a pleasure. 😃

You are quite right @futuremind. I did get a photo of a look of sheer amusement on the silver man's face when a couple of kids showed a lot of interest and couldn't hide their confusion. It wasn't a clear photo unfortunately so I didn't include it. I'm sure the man derives a lot of pleasure from such interludes. Not sure how lucrative his hobby is though and I hope he had a comfortable recliner waiting for him back home. (lol)

You've given me an idea with your comments, Perhaps I should try and contact him to share this blog. I'll see if he is available online.

Many thanks for your valuable contribution. Much appreciated.
