Yellow vs White fats are a contentious issue

in #share2steem5 years ago

When it comes to biltong, it's hard to find consensus on the yellow vs white fat issue.

Before we go there though: Do you know what biltong IS?

It's a form of dried, cured meat... similar to jerky, except that it actually tastes good :P, and very popular in Southern Africa.

What are some of the "weird foods" that you eat in your country?

Share them with us, and a wider foodie audience.

Sort:

From which animal is the meat?

The meat in the picture looks to be beef.

Three most popular meats used are beef, ostrich and kudu (venison)

Yeah @oldtimer, @joanstweart is right... that's beef biltong.

Personal preference is no fat on the meat, each to their own.

I'm a lean wet biltong girl, but do enjoy a little fat on very dry biltong!
I've really got to get with-it and look at share2steem, I'm lagging!!!

There are no "weird foods" in my country because we're the one's who went out and conquered half the world, imposing our tastes and culture wherever we went and therefore defining "weirdness".

I believe yellow fat comes from animals taking in more beta-carotene (that'd be me too!) so now I know which side of the fence to take next time I go to the SA shop :)

No offence is meant by asking what a meat dish has to do with the @share2steem project? As an aspiring vegan it does not entice me to linger on this post, let alone make any delegation.
