It was a late night, and Amelia was getting ready for bed. She works as a secretary at a car dealership and today was a very long, and stressful day. There were a lot of calls, and the girl that comes in late in the afternoon to relieve her called in sick. It was the second time this week. Amelia sent her a text message to make sure everything was okay, but she didn't get a response back. Looking in the mirror, Amelia twirled her black wavy hair, and stared at her short and petite figure.


After she changed and got into bed, she activated the airplane mode in her phone and set the alarm at 6 AM sharp the next morning. She wasn't scheduled to work that day, but she likes to keep her body used to waking up early in the morning so when she does have to work, she won't be having problems waking up. The final thing Amelia did was turn on her Pandora app. She started listening to the song Bella y Sensual. Not long after, she fell asleep. About 30 minutes into sleeping, something strange began to happen. Everything around Amelia began to turn white and there was a very big WOOSH. After the brightness subsided, it was immediately obvious that Amelia was no longer in her room.

Amelia was laying asleep in a forest in the middle of the night. There were people yelling far in the distance. There was another bright, white light, but this time it wasn't big enough to fill the room around her. Instead, it took the form of an individual. A being dressed in a white robe like a monk appeared out of the light. He was about 6 feet tall, and he had no hair on his head. He slowly walked up to Amelia, who was still asleep. He awoke her by calling her name in a very deep, English accent.

"Amelia! Amelia!"

She slowly woke up. Something felt weird though. Once she realized that she wasn't in her room, she quickly jumped up in a panic.

"Who... who are you?" she asks.

"I am Maximus", he replies and continues, "I am a watcher of this land".

"A watcher?" Amelia asks.

"I could've sworn you were God and that maybe I had died and ended up here" she adds.

"Oh no, I am not God", Maximus tells her.

"So I'm not dead then?" she asks.

"You tell me" he says.

Amelia feels her pulse on her neck and asks,

"Why have you brought me here, Maximus?"

"I watched several people for some time, and then I narrowed it down to three candidates, including yourself," he starts and continues,

"We needed someone with a specific way of doing things. Someone who can think and plan ahead. Someone like you."

"What do you want me to do?", Amelia asks.

"You will travel to this temple", Maximus hands her a map.

"What will I do there?" she asks.

"There is a stolen piece of technology that needs to be recovered, an experimental personal camouflage device. It needs to be confiscated from the inhabitants of the temple before they reverse engineer it and use devices like it to cause all sorts of trouble out here. The trip out there is dangerous and guards along the way won't hesitate to kill a small girl like you." Maximus replies.

Amelia told him,

"Don't worry about me. Remember, you wouldn't have picked me for this job if you didn't think I could handle it right?" Maximus simply smiled at her and vanished.


Amelia looked around her. There was nothing but large trees in every direction. In a situation like this, her natural reaction is to pull out her phone and use a map. Unfortunately, her phone seemed to have stayed behind back home, and even her clothes were different. A simple t-shirt and shorts have been replaced with a black armored uniform with a helmet. Amelia was nervous because she wasn't sure how she was going to get her job done and whether or not she would survive.

"Screw it. I'll just head this way" she told herself.

She picked a path and began to walk. As she approached a hill, she heard movement in some nearby bushes. Amelia could feel her heart pounding in her chest.

There were voices,

"That way! Let's go!" one of the voices said.

The voices and footsteps slowly faded off into the distance, and Amelia headed off into the bushes that they were hiding behind. As she entered the bushes, she tripped over an object and fell to the ground. Her suit protected her from any injuries though. She got back up and looked down to see what it was that she had tripped over. It was a laser rifle. She strapped it on her back and continued down the path. Little did she know she was being watched.


A man came at Amelia from behind. She grabbed him and threw him on the floor. He quickly got up and went after her. She pushed him back but he pushed forward attempting to deliver punches. Amelia responded with counterpunches and kicks. She thought to herself,

"Should I do it?"

Amelia had never been in a position where she had to kill someone before, but her life was in danger. She grabbed her rifle from her back, but instead of shooting her attacker, she decided to take a swing at him straight to the face. The guy fell to the floor. She grabbed his side arm, a laser pistol. She went through his stuff and found a rope. She picked up and carried him over to a tree where she sat him down. She tied him up not too tight, but not too loose.

"I'm sure someone will come looking for you, friend" she told him.

She grabbed her bottle of water from her supply pack and took several gulps from it. Then, she decided to leave her water with the attacker, who was slowly starting to regain consciousness. Once Amelia picked up on it, she took off running.

The rest of Amelia's journey was relatively effortless and without further incident. For a few seconds at a time, she would enjoy the scenery around her. She noticed the tall, lush trees, and looked up in the sky. There were barely any clouds up above and there was a full moon that seemed to be brighter than one she had ever seen. She found it amusing.

"The first time I see moon that's really bright happens when I'm taken away from my life", she thought to herself.

There was also a calm, but cool breeze in the air. Amelia continued down the path and she finally approached the temple.

The main door was locked and obviously getting a key was out of the question. Amelia wiggled the handle. She wanted to feel how sturdy it was. After a moment, she targeted the door handle with her laser pistol and fired one shot. The door handle was blown off. Amelia quietly opened the door, but it made an unavoidable creaking sound. She thought to herself,

"Oh my gosh I hope nobody hear that".

Amelia continued on through the corridors. She grabs the map Maximus gave her and was able to see the layout of the temple's corridors. She found the room that the camouflage device was being stored. There were two armored guards standing in front of the door. Amelia thought for a second while hiding in an adjacent corridor, and then she took a second look at her map. She studied the layout of the overhead ventilation system.

An access door was discovered a few minutes from Amelia's current location, and to her surprise, it was unlocked!

She climbed the stairs and crawled into the access way. She quietly followed the path to where the guards were down below. On the final section of the path out there, there were two overhead air vents. The first air vent was in front of the room that Amelia needed to get into, the second vent was about 10 feet away from the door. Amelia removed the vent that was 10 feet away from the guards first, then she looked around for a small, but heavy object that she could use to distract the guards. She found a decently sized rock that would fit in her hand. Amelia then proceeded to the second vent that was in front of the door.

The guards were just standing there, talking to each other. It was time. Amelia grabbed the rock and threw it out through the open vent. The guards left the doorway to see what was going on. She ripped off the vent and readied her laser pistol and set it to stun.

"On the count of three," she thought to herself, and then continued,

"Three... two... one."

Amelia jumped through the air vent and quickly fired at the two guards. They fell to the ground. She walked up to them to make sure they were really down, and they were really knocked out cold. There was a closet down the way and Amelia went to check it out. It was empty.

"Perfect!" she thought to herself.

She would put the guards in there. She found a key in one of the guards' pockets and was able to lock the closet from the outside. Amelia then proceeded to the room where the camouflage device was being stored. She had several keys that she had to try first before she found the right one that would get the door open. She quietly opened the door and went in.


Amelia walked up to the pedestal where the device was being stored. She picked it up and looked at it. It was a watch-like device. There was also some information written down.

"WARNING: Device is still in testing phase, there's a 50/50 chance of possible electric shock. Built-in protection will shut down device in the event of an overload"


Amelia put the watch on, but when she turned around, she had an unpleasant surprise waiting for her. There was an armored guard waiting for her and his rifle was pointing right at her.

He came up to her and said,

"Come with me."

They walked out of the room. As the two were walking, Amelia was carefully watching the guard's footsteps. She timed her steps just right, and then she tripped the guard. The guard hit the ground and she punched him in the stomach. Right as he was about to get up, she struck him with her rifle, knocking him out. Once he hit the ground, Amelia thought to herself for a moment and then decided to activate the camouflage device.

She found a mirror down the way and decided to take a look. Other than a very minor visual distortion, it was almost as though there was nothing there. Amelia continued on, and as she was passing through the main hall, the device failed. There was a guard watching her from the ledge above. He jumped down and attacked Amelia from behind, knocking her down. This guard was angrier than the other ones.

He kicked Amelia on the side and she rolled over from the impact. As she got up, he punched her in the stomach. Amelia fell in extreme pain. She was about to grab her rifle when he walked over to her and put his foot over her hand and started putting his weight on it. Amelia thought it was over but then she got an idea.

She decided to activate the camouflage. She had remembered that it did have a chance of overloading. Amelia engaged the device and she and the guard started to gradually vanish and reappear with electrical arcs starting to engulf them. Both she and the guard yelled out in pain.

After a few seconds, the device shut down. Amelia was on her knees trying to recover. She got up after a moment and took off running. The guard also got up and began running after her. Amelia saw a big chandelier above and she readied her laser rifle. She timed her shot just right and targeted the part of the assembly that was being hung from the ceiling. She fired her rifle at the last second and the chandelier came down on the guard bringing him down. Amelia took off running out of the temple.
After exiting the temple, continued running into the forest. She was greeted by Maximus.

"You have saved us all, Amelia" he tells her.

"When do I get to go home?" she asks him.

"Right now." Maximus replies.

He had a suspicious grin on his face and he started to laugh like someone who had evil intentions. In any case, this wasn't Amelia's problem anymore but she couldn't help but wonder if she had done something bad.

There was a big bright white light that surrounded her and before long she was back in her room in bed. She grabbed her phone and it was the middle of the night already back to the time when she had first started. Amelia looked around for a while, and then went back to sleep.
