Sin - What does it really mean?

in #sin6 years ago

The word "sin" is very controversial right now. With one side stating they are absolute laws, and the other side saying that they are nothing more than men trying to control other men. And to make matters more difficult, you have many in the middle who think that sins are mutable, that you should kinda follow them, depending on situations.

Christians have turned God into the angry father figure, who's law must be obeyed.

Atheists have decided since God doesn't exist, God's law doesn't exist.

Both lead to incorrect conclusions.
And these conclusions destroy so many people's lives.

The christian says that when we sin we are breaking God's laws and we will be punished. They say that when we sin, God is angry at us.

And... that is so close to the truth, but man has placed his own views of the angry father figure onto God, and thus have completely twisted the meaning.

The atheists say that there is no God and thus, why would you follow any laws written down by obviously controlling men.

And... if you take out the belief, or non-belief in God, it has no bearing on whether God's laws exist. Further, there are many men who are wise and try to impart good guidance for living a good life. But, when you throw out everything, you throw out everything, good and bad.

Sins would be better described as things that hurt your soul or energy body.
We don't need to be told about not hurting our physical body, because we have pain sensors that tell us. However, most people don't listen to the pain sensors of their energy body. Thus, we have "God's Laws".

These laws would be properly described as physics. However, modern materialistic sciences break down the world into physics (the stuff we believe in) and metaphysics (the stuff we can't measure yet... and is only believed by quacks and witchdoctors).

We will, in the near future, understand that our bodies have seven layers and the maintenance of each is important for a good life. There are already scientists who have measured and shown that these layers exist. They have also shown miraculous healing through working with these layers. However, our modern (rock-e-fellow snake-oil salesman) medicine discards all of this new information as quackery.

So, i see the sins in the bible as being warning signs so that you will avoid hurting your energy body. Much like the superstition to not walk under a ladder. (i mean, seriously, walking under a ladder is just asking for something to fall on you, people shouldn't have to be told, yet, they needed to be told)

Sins, karma, "God's laws" will all be scientifically verified in the coming century.
I would say it would become a branch of physics with its own departments in the universities, but in the future, "branches of physics" will be seen as stupid, because every area overlaps with ever other area. That you cannot understand one area without crossing over into many other areas. And so, to try to draw boundaries around fields is just trying to keep people from knowing.

Good vs Evil will not be seen as some arbitrary mental exercise, but an actual, physical manifestation of energy around an event.

Lets take the commandment, "Thou shalt not kill". Taken as a philosophical debate, there are times when you should kill and times when you shouldn't, and times when its ok, and not. But, if we look at the real, visible effects it has on good people, we notice that there is much trauma. Soldiers coming back from war suffering PTSD and many other mental problems. People who have killed in self defense never feel the same again.

What is actually happening is that we are all connected. Many languages have their greeting as, "I recognize another me in you". So, killing someone else is VERY similar to cutting off your own arm. There is as much pain and as much loss. But, we do not call it such, because it is supposed to be "all mental".

And so it is with all of God's Laws.

(You can use this to validate which parts of the bible are written by "god" and which parts are written by man)

Very interesting conclusion. I have for some while worked on a metaphysical theory (loosely based on quantum field theory) stating that there is only one universal conciseness and our perceptions are only isolated branches of that one consciousness. In that logic we are all the same, only at this very instance "I" perceive "my" physical self.

This theory also fundamentally changes the nature of time, as an apparent effect of that consciousness.

Yes, time and space are an apparent effect of consciousness. They are one of the lowest dimensions (a measuring tape for our mind) They are an effect of the aether.

What this means is that Schrödinger's cat experiment doesn't work. There is no 50/50 chance. The experiment doesn't care about time. There is a 100/100 chance depending on the people/creatures involved. Its all about the people involved, and time and radioactive decay may as well not exist for the experiment.

Exactly. The apparent quantum randomness is the consequence of consciousness.

Good observations.

I think of sin as an immoral act. It is an extension of our humanity. All animals including humans indulge in acts which could be deemed sinful. But it is only us humans that commit a sin without necessity. Hence, sin and morality only apply to us humans in a way where the ends do not justify the means.

To be entirely honest, nothing is wrong or right. The only thing that matters is why. The ideology behind actions is what deems an act as moral or sinful.

The ends never justify the means. By definition. But, that is another post.

I do not consider sins an immoral act, but that is because we are using the word in two different ways.

Its like having a baby. 100 years ago it was really bad to be pregnant without having a husband. Very immoral. But, it was not, in my definition a sin.

I watch people cut themselves up all the time.
Is it right / wrong for them to cut themselves up?

Well, the modern concept of morality is more social than human. The question then exists: What is inhuman? For we are all but animals with big brains in the end.

Interesting take on the whole good/bad dynamic. :)

I was taught it means “you missed the mark”

Our Father is a heart knower. Evidently there are some who remain asleep and those who choose evil. Everybody else is pretty much in harmony.
Great post.
