Pros and cons of being single

Do you believe that being single makes people more predisposed to sadness, depression and loneliness, compared to those who are in a relationship?

You’re not the only one, because society is the one who sets the trends and influences the way everyone thinks. But sociologists and psychologists have another opinion.

Of course, there are negative emotions “attached” to single people. Most of the times, these emotions come from the outside.

• People might feel sorry for you.
• If you’re single, some might look at you as if you’re inferior and incomplete.
• You can be left out from social events.
• Many times, your close ones try to find you a partner and that makes you feel uncomfortable.
• The fact that media constantly tells you that married people are happier can affect you (it’s okay, scientists say that it’s not relevant).
• If you’re single, you might be tagged as selfish.
• Popular culture romanticizes relationships and it discriminates single life.
  These emotions differ from a person to another, and they’re not always negative. What a person says about you reflects their view on life, and it says more about them than about yourself.

People who are single are more likely to have positive emotions connected to their personal development, compared who people who are in a relationship.

• You can create the life that you want and reach your own goals.
• You’re the one who always decides for yourself.
• Because you need to count on yourself, you’ll develop a lot of abilities that will help you in life.
• You can design your life and change it as many times as you want to.
• Sometimes, being single makes it easier for you to develop and grow.
  Emotional life is complex, no matter if you’re single or in a relationship. Some things are in your advantage, while others consume you emotionally. But studies say that you can see what life has to offer and achieve your goals easier if you’re single.
