The Joy Of The Lovely Of It All ~ Part V

We're Still Bopping Around The Countryside With Our Camera

In our last post, we were driving all around the countryside, looking to see what we could see in the deep snows of night. And as we wandered around, we ended up out by the local airport. The lights out in the country were fantastic, and many more things were meant to be seen and photographed. Enjoy...

The PLEASURE Of The Drive Continues

Do People Actually Fly In This Stuff?

Acutally, the airport was all buttoned up for the night. Not because of the snows (though that WOULD tend to mess up travel plans), but because there are no all-night flights in this area, even on a balmy summer night. Not enough customers to fill the planes.
All the better for me on a NOT-so-balmy night. I drove all OVER the place taking photos, turning around in the middle of the roads and the highway, always keeping a wary eye out for the local travel gendarmes. Not sure what laws I was breaking, but there had to be a few: "Sir, you can't just stop sideways in the middle of the public thoroughfare, completely blocking the road, then take photos out the side window-that'll be $75 please".

Where The Heck Is My CAR?!

Long-term parking. All those people that left last week for the beaches of the Caribbean, complaining about our N.W. weather: "This drizzle is getting old. And I'm SURE not going to miss this 45 degree stuff either. Yucko! Goodbye rain, hello tropics!" They're in for a bit of a shock at vacation's end. "I know I parked the Audi out here SOMEWHERE!".

"Dig Out The Snow Shovel, Madge"

The other parking lot wasn't much better. Hope all these travel folks have a Super-X snow scraper and a big flat shovel in the trunk. Doubtful at best. If I were them, I'd turn around, walk back to the plane, and head out again to those sunny beaches for another week or three. But since I don't have the cash to follow them, I'll just keep driving around in the middle of the night with my camera...

Lumpy, Side-Of-The-Road NightSnows

What those beach-travelers get to drive in, when they get back home. Take it from some nut in a Subaru that's been driving around all night, stay on the road, folks, STAY on the road. I never DID get stuck (almost), but then again, there wasn't much traffic to contend with at four AM.

Stop In. Relax. Stay Awhile

I kept waiting for the cops to stop me and ask what the heck I was doing driving back and forth across the airport in the snow at this time of night. Turning around in the oddest of places, stopping, going, stopping, going in reverse, wherever I wanted . But I never saw any official people anywhere. Maybe they were all smart and at home in bed like the farmers.
This big sign shows up when headed away from the airport, back into the night. Welcoming travelers to the area, and all the wonderful things they can do in the outdoors, in this part of the world. Illusion is everything.

There's That Windmill Again

I left the airport, and drove around the farmsteads once more. I soon passed the sad, droopy windmill going the other way. It still didn't look to be having any fun out here. Don't see these much anymore. A classic blast from the rural past.

Don't Stack Cement On The Roof

I stopped across the road from this building for gas. The guy working at the Chevron said the roof had just collapsed a bit earlier, before I showed up. Said it made a LOT of noise. Remember in SnOwregon Post One, I discussed Cascade Cement? This is what happens when you stack a bunch of it on a rooftop.

The Last Photo From The Last Photographer Left In The World

This is one of my favorite NightSnow photos. Has a very ethereal quality about it. The snows have taken over, and no one is left in the entire world except the guy behind the camera. What WAS his fate?

The Little Blue-Headed Doobers From Planet Orb Got Him

Take Me To Your Leader. Oh, never-mind.

Another favorite photo from the bunch. Reminds me of a little stick-person-being from somewhere in outer space, wandering around in our snowstorm. Eating photographers for a snack!

Author's Note:
Many photos are a bit grainy. They were shot with the highest ISO (3200) on my small Lumix camera, while hanging out the car window, during the storm. All photos were handheld, without a tripod. So, there is a bit of color shift and odd things going on, which I feel adds to the effect. Thankyouverymuch. -dds

Somehow I almost missed this between the two basket joneses. What I like is the sepia tone the certain streetlight bulbs make. Plus the windmill is a classic one although a bit lonesome. Aww too bad about that roof. I say that certainly proves you were correct in putting in all that work.

Let's hope that is all behind us now for the year. However look at the car last night. Will it ever end?

That looks like what we got this weekend here in southern MN. I just shoveled water-laden snow, that was about as like shifting concrete :-P

I've heard your area has been getting hammered again. A lot of snow. And it sure is fun when it weighs in like an elephant. SOME day spring will arrive. Thanks so much for stopping in, and hoping you have a snow shovel free weekend.

Whoa ... playing it on the edge with that windmill. Make sure you take your iodine shots. LOL. Sorry I couldn't resist. Some great shots, DD:) Love the framing work. A clever and whimsical post altogether:)

Awesome pics, as I live in Oregon as well, here's one pic I came across supposedly from Eugene, LOL!!!

Love it, though the end result would no-doubt cut the all-night photography short. That is one big bowl ( :
It was a lot of fun bopping all about photo-ing the snows. They are so gorgeous at night. And all the 'things' people make are fascinating. I'm hoping to do another post on some of that, if I can get to it. Though I don't have as many images (there are still more of these coming out). YIKES, some folks says. Cheers and thanks for stopping in.

That really was a magnificent snowfall, as long as it wasn't your own roof that was collapsing. This collection of photos are worth staying out all night and risking life and limb for. And I'll bet you loved your Subaru even better in the morning,

I love the chained modern art shot!

Wow!!! You took all the snow, didn't you??? We didn't even get our fair share this year. We really got none! Boo!

Doesn't the snow make for such a beautiful backdrop? I love the soft, gentle feeling it leaves me with. I was going to say peaceful until I saw that gas station. Those flat roofs are just not made for the heavy snow.

I love how you put frames on your pictures and made it into a story. Loveliness.

How many inches did you get???

Well, just know that I am jealous and it is nearing 80 again tomorrow, but, that is a tad cooler than we have been having. Washington, DC just isn't as cold as I remember!

!tip

We had an official 11 inches, but I think in places it was more like 14. More than I've seen in a long long time. It is VERY peaceful and quiet, when wandering about in it. And as you say, a photographic wonderland. (Though I missed a lot of sleep in the capture. Oh, we can nap later, the light is right, so snap away...).
Try to stay cool in your 80 degrees. And from the times I've been in your neck of things, it was VERY humid too. I'd send you some snow, but it is gone, and would only end up arriving as a glass of tepid water, once it traveled afar in a box ( :
I do think our weather is changing, at an alarming rate. But I persevere on in whatever temps and challenges it brings. As if I have a choice. Stay cool. And thanks for the nice tip.

First of all, I’m happy that you are still alive.... At least, you have not been eaten by the little aliens with globose heads of blue that night! Ha ha! ;D

Everything on the snowy-land at night is very amazing, especially the light on the snow, I love it, too. Those cars covering with the thick white snow in both parking lots look like toy cars that I would like to play with…. Ha ha! ;)))

The photo of windmill is my most favorite, it looks picturesque and peaceful. (Um! No one was there indeed!!)

Thanks so much for sharing this excellent night with snowy with us. I’m very happy to see snow…snow….snow….. As you know, I love everywhere with snow… ;D

Have wonderful weekend, GFF! ;)
