Homemade Laundry Soap

Making your own laundry soap is so easy! All you need is coconut oil, sodium hydroxide (lye), distilled water, and essential oils (if you want - I didn't this time). I use hot process for this bar, though I prefer cold process soap. I'll go over this process in another post.

Once complete and dry, use a cheese grater (or food processor if you must) to get small flakes so it melts in the wash. A 5 oz bar is good enough on its own, but adding a cup of washing soda and borax each really helps to boost its washing power. All you need is 1 or 2 tablespoons of the mixture per load.

If you can't find washing soda, just bake some baking soda in the oven for an hour at 400°F until it loses it shimmer. Rinsing on cold with a splash of vinegar is great instead of fabric softener. To finish off, use wool dryer balls instead of yucky sheets!

Nice! What is the ratio of each item to make a good bar of soap? I want to get into soap making soon.

Hey!! You can play with it, by using a soap calculator to get the correct lye amounts (I haven't delved into that yet, but I bet you can figure it out easily haha mr science guy!). I can message you the recipe, and the website where I found it. This particular bar is very drying, so not for skin unless you increased the oil and water, called superfatting. Are you on discord? I'll just text your phone.
