SoCal Steemit Visiting Hour - 03/05/19
Welcome to the latest edition of the SoCal Steemit Visiting Hour post!
Every tuesday at 8pm @socalsteemit is doing a weekly voice and text chat for the members in our Discord server! Here we'll be giving a short summary of our previous chat and bring up potential topics for the next upcoming chat.
Last Nights Visiting Hour
In the last SoCal Visiting Hour we just had @csusbgeochem1 and myself (@derekrichardson) join in the conversation.
To start it off I told @csusbgeochem1 all about the meetup we had on monday night in Tarzana. It was a lot of fun! You can read all about it here, here, here, here, and here.

Next we talked a bit about all this rainy weather we've been getting here in California and all the effects that come with it. Flooding, falling trees, snow in the mountains, etc...
After that we talked about how baseball season starts next month so I'll be back to working full time! @csusbgeochem1 was asking me about the special nights and the giveaways, most of which I don't really know since I'm just the chef and don't really have anything to do with that stuff. But I am hoping to get us a skybox again for another SoCal Steemit meetup at the ballpark sometime this summer!! You can read about the one we did there last summer here.
Then @csusbgeochem1 asked me about the recent dpoll for the 20k SP delegation from @theycallmedan and I gave him the results. How @steemitbloggers was able to pull off the win and how @mariannewest and her @freewritehouse community was able to get a 1k delegation for being nominated! So really good stuff all around.
Then I told him how I had recently joined Mastodon which is like a decentralized version of Twitter. I've had some trouble finding anyone to follow on there though so if your on there shoot me your handle and I'll give you a follow!
That conversation led us into talking about @share2steem and how that works. Neither of us have actually used it so we're both a bit clueless about the details. But we discussed how we see it effecting Steem. I see it as great for outreach and marketing to new users, but I think that ultimately it's just a stepping stone to get people into Steem. Which can then hopefully open their eyes to the bigger Steem universe and all the awesome decentralized apps getting built here. And then hopefully more and more people will realize what a huge potential the Steem blockchain has for the future of social media!
That led us into talking about some of the awesome new Steem dapps like Steem Monsters, Magic Dice, and Drug Wars. As well as talking about some of the dapps that were built on Steem but aren't anymore like Dlive, Dstors, and the one @csusbgeochem1 really misses... Steepshot. The cryptoverse truly moves fast. It's been an interesting ride getting to watch Steem continue to change and evolve and I think we're gonna see a lot more changing and evolving in the future. So hang in for the ride and keep on Steemin'!
Next Tuesday
In next Tuesdays SoCal Visiting Hour we'd like to talk about the possiblity of a meetup in San Diego with @mariannewest later this month as well as ideas for a location for our meetup next month. And we welcome anything else any members would like to bring up and discuss! So again, it's tuesday at 8pm in the SoCal Steemit Discord server. If you are not equipped to voice chat or are a bit intimidated to get on a mic, feel free to come listen to the chat and communicate with the group through the corresponding text channel. We'd love to have everyone come join the conversation!!
