In the opening game of the eleventh matchday, Galatasaray and Fenerbahce faced each other for the great Istanbul derby. The heated game ended with a 2-2 draw. Ryan Donk and Martin Linnes had taken the lions into the lead before Mathieu Valbuena saved the point with a penalty and a great goal from Jailson.

For the derby, Fatih Terim's team, which had been without a win for two games, had set itself a lot of goals. A win against their arch-rival Fenerbahce should lead them back on the road to success. After a 2-0 lead through the goals of Ryan Donk (31st) and Martin Linnes (48th), it looked like a pleasant evening for the hosts. In the further course of the game Galatasaray tried to slow down the pace and control the game. But this played Fenerbahce rather into the cards. In the 66th minute, interim coach Erwin Koeman's team, after VAR's intervention, scored a penalty that Mathieu Valbuena certainly turned into a penalty. The visitors felt that there was more in it for them and took more risks. This paid off in the 72nd minute, when Jailson flicked the ball from 20 meters worth seeing into the angle to equalize. Until the final whistle Fenerbahce even had the better chances. Martin Skrtel had the huge opportunity on his foot to decide the game, but the Slovakian shot past the goal from five meters.

The game ended with a draw that was unsatisfactory for both sides. The reigning Turkish champions must be accused of having won too early. On the other hand, Fenerbahce must be praised for the fight and the effort, but at the end of the day this draw does not help them either. After the match, there were unpleasant scenes between the players of both teams, which were more reminiscent of martial arts and had no place on the football pitch. Referee Firat Aydinus then watched the scenes on the screen, which results with red cards for some players.
