So driving songs are kind of a big deal for me. I have mentioned in previous posts that I used to be a tour manager for Contiki Holidays. Well If you’ve ever been on a Contiki, you would know theme music on the bus is a BIG deal. When you cross the border into Alabama you play Sweet Home Alabama. Driving down the Vegas Strip you play Luck Be a Lady Tonight. New York New York has to be on full blast the first time the Statue of Liberty and Empire State Building come into view.

Aside from this you ALWAYS have a morning song. The morning song is generally about traveling, or adventuring or having the time of your life. This song is played first thing EVERY morning on the bus and acts as a wake up call and theme song for the whole trip. Going the Distance by Cake is a song I used for one of the tours I led. I love that it is a little aggressive, a little bit rap, a little alt rock, and the words “we’re going the distance, we’re going for speed” definitely lend themselves to road tripping.

I used this song on a 24 day tour from New York to LA. We covered the east coast down to Florida then took a right hand turn into the south and southwestern US. 🇺🇸 By the end of the trip the morning song is either loved or hated. 😄 Usually loved since it will bring up memories of the good times had along the way.
