Song of the Day: Franz Liszt (1811-1886) - Spanish Rhapsody, S254, R90.

Publicada em 1867, esta obra foi escrita enquanto o compositor estava em Roma, em 1963, apos uma turnê em Portugal e Espanha. Com o subtítulo "Folies d'Espagne" e "Jota aragonesa", a peça aborda variações sobre esses dois temas após a abertura. O primeiro tema aparece nas regiões graves do piano, na marcação "Andante Moderado" apos a abertura arpejada e virtuosística, apesar da marcação "Lento". E que muitas vezes nos lembra sua obra "Légende n1: St François d'Assise - La prédication aux oiseaux S174"

O tema de folia, tem um caráter sério e nobre assim como suas variações, que desliza suavemente para D Maior, para a delicada apresentação da "Jota aragonesa" no registro superior do piano, na marcação de andamento "Allegro", aos 5 minutos e 19 segundos, nesta interpretação de Stephen Hough (1961*).

Em "Un poco meno Allegro" aos 7 minutos e 52 segundos, Liszt lança um tema novo, acredito que dele mesmo, seguida de suas variações, De caráter mais sereno, e doce. Este contrapõe a seriedade e potencia do tema de "Folies d'Espagne", e a jocosidade de "Jota aragonesa", até o retorno destas variações em 9:34, que em muitos momentos, toma o carater de "Folies", até que este retorna aos 12:30, desta vez em D Maior, em "Non troppo allegro". Uma coda para o final. Em alternância com aspectos do terceiro tema.

Published in 1867, this work was written while the composer was in Rome in 1963, after a tour in Portugal and Spain.
