Scotland's eye to the Stars
Sadly it looks like my hometown, Dundee, may be losing its public Satellite Receiving Station. 😒
The site has been in operation for 50 years and is one of the UK’s longest-running and most successful space missions.
During its time, it has helped capture iconic images from Space as well as Fastnet yacht race storm of 1979, the Buncefield oil depot fire in 2005, volcanic eruptions in Iceland and at Mount Etna, hurricanes, tropical cyclones, wildfires and the severe winter conditions of 2010-11, which provided such stunning images of snow-covered UK and Ireland.
Dundee Satellite Receiving Station is seeking to independently continue without the University of Dundee.
To do so, it requires some help and has set up a GoFundMe as to help with the costs.
