Nobody knows how many planets and stars exist in our universe. Recently India explores a new planet which is very close to the sun-like star. India is currently working jointly with a selected group of countries who are most experienced in space research. The radius of new planet is six times more than that of earth. It is also called sub-Saturn or super-Neptune sized planet.

A team that discovered the new planet was working under the leadership of Abhijit Chakraborty of the Physical Research Laboratory based in Ahmedabad. The research team found the newly discovered planet moving around the sun-like star. The planet takes 19.5 days to have a complete revolving around the sun-like star.

The mass of the new planet was measured using a spectrograph, designed in India, called ‘PRL Advance Radial-velocity Abu-sky Search’ (PARAS). This spectrograph is installed with a 1.2m telescope at PRL’s Gurushikhar Observatory located in Mount Abu. According to Isro, these types of spectrographs are very few in number in the world. Only India has this spectrograph which is capable to measure the mass of a planet accurately.

The distance between the newly discovered planet and earth is 600 light years. The size of the new planet is very close to Neptune and its mass is 27 times more than that of Earth.

Around 600 degrees C temperature is measured at the surface of the new planet due to its closer to the host star. And that’s why the life is impossible at the new planet. However we can’t ignore their effort to discover new planet.
