How do we choose the right spiritual leader or Guru?

in #spirituality6 years ago

This question cannot be answered so easily.

A person who thinks he /she is not satisfied with a normal life can set out to find answers. The first step is to read books on philosophy and religion which are aplenty.
Visiting ashrams and observing activities is also good in helping to decide future actions regarding choosing a Guru and so on. some people cannot agree with certain ashram rules and so, it would be better not to join such a place instead of regretting later.

A genuine spiritual aspirant will be directed by the conscience to take certain steps and for that, it is essential to lead an austere life and quite the mind.

A person who is agitated will not be able to help others and so such a person who is a guru is not an ideal choice.

A Guru is he who

  • is calm
  • is serene
  • is loving
  • is forgiving
  • is knowledgeable
  • is charismatic
  • not demanding
  • does not ask money
  • does not order to do tasks
  • is patient
  • is spiritually on a higher level
  • is an evolved soul
  • is respected by all

I hope this helps. Our conscience is our means to communicate with God. Follow it.

Think good
Speak good
Do good

You don't in my opinion as most are corrupt and out for power. that being said having a guru in the traditional Indian sense (a teacher) not the bastardized western version can be beneficial. but the minute they ask you for money , donations , to cut off family and friends run...

haha, that's true
