I love it when people fill you up with energy by just being themselves

When you meet someone who is really pushing towards being their best version, they leave you with a kind of magic residue. They may not even know that they’ve left an impact on you because they were less concerned with impressing you and more concerned with just kicking ass.

Today I went to the park for an interactive performance art event with around 20 people. It was split up into sections with each section being someone’s own project. There was one guy in particular who happened to be the primary organizer of the event. He was so full of energy you almost wanted to laugh just looking at him. It wasn’t forced, he was really excited about what he was doing because it was an embodiment of his true self. I don’t know if the others could see that but I could.

His performance was kind of nonsensical, he narrated his own actions in a kind of stream of consciousness and his actions didn’t really make much sense, but there was so much passion that we were all totally enthralled by his every move. There was likely no deeper meaning to the things he said, he was just transferring raw unfiltered energy to us through his random actions.

After the performance we bought some drinks and talked for a few hours. No one wanted to leave because the people were already engaged with each other through the interactivity of some of the other performances and the people all seem so likeminded, mostly performance artists, a few art curators, a photographer or two, a homeless skateboarder, a regular company employee who identifies himself as a Burner first and foremost. We all spent time to get to know whoever we could.

I was happy to talk to anyone and so I made no special effort to prioritize anyone else. The organizer seemed most to want to talk to those of us who were new to the event and so when he found out I play music, he asked if I’d play a song. I’m in this situation fairly often, and I can tell you that it isn’t always the most pleasant situation. Sometimes you require a certain mood or atmosphere for your art and so you don’t like being pushed to share it on call. But he had already set up the atmosphere perfectly, so I was happy to play two songs.

Apparently I struck a chord. I haven’t had such an engaged audience in a long time, everyone swayed with the music and afterwards had a variety of pleasant expressions.

Afterwards the organizer talked to me about the event and how he isn’t always sure if people get what he is trying to do. I told him that surely a few like myself do and that it is really powerful the way he brings together all kinds of artists in a non commercial setting and for the most part without many mutual friends. He seems moved by my words, as if I had given him an extra boost of energy to keep doing what he is doing.

I had made a full circuit. This is how free energy works. When what is given is given freely and without expectations, it has a tendency to come full circle and create a positive feedback loop where everyone involved is left better than they were before.

I really love it when people can just do a great job at being themselves. I think it’s really all we need to achieve everything we desire and have a profound impact on others.
