So the world cup has kicked off and many steemians are getting in on the action with prediction score games, reviews of the games, opinions of who they think will win it and who they are supporting for the tournament and it's really livened up my feed which has been pretty slow as of late.
I've been going through tons of World cup content on the site and I didn't see much love for stand out players for each game and I thought it would be a cool series of posts to run with for the next month.

England vs Croatia
Englands world cup hopes rested on the shoulders of Harry Kane upfront with Dele Ali in support while the rest of the team focused on shutting the back door. This tactic worked for them throughout the tournament and I think with the team that they took to the World Cup this is as far as they could possibly go. They had no plan B with many of the players who came on as substiutes not offering anything different.
Perhaps if they had included the likes of Jack Wilshire, Danny Drinkwater and Ryan Bertrand who offer you more pace, guile and dynamism they could have had a chance of opening up Croatia. But those are now all what if's. England are out and Croatia are through and they better team won. England hardly threatened apart from the freekick Trippier scored and Harry Kane hitting the post.
While Croatia peppered Pickford's goals until they broke through. While many will look to the goal scorers as match winners it was once again their captain who deserves all the applause. Luka Modric was full of running and played till he himself was shattered but the orchestrator took control as England faded, with Perisic hitting the post and Jordan Pickford saving magnificently from Mandzukic, before the striker made the decisive contribution with 11 minutes of extra time left.
England lacked a midfielder in the class of Croatia's Luka Modric who never panicked even when they were behind, dictated the tempo and picked his passes like chess moves. The man has really had an amazing tournament leading his country to the final.

So there you have it, the stand out player from the first semi-final games. Real Madrid players have really shown up in the latter stages of the world cup with Varane and now Modric putting in match-winning performances. It shows that after all these games class cannot be replaced and will shine through when a tie breaker is needed.
