Blast from the past - WRC Rally Cyprus
Hi, Steemers!
46 retirements and only 30 finishers - that's how rough it was Rally Cyprus back in a days when it was a part of the World Rally Championship. These days it is a part of European Rally Championship as a mixed gravel/tarmac event, still very rough in a places.
Back in a days when it was part of WRC, drivers always complained that organizers didn't repair the roads at all from previous years. That way it was even rougher every year.
The rally itself was on the WRC calendar for 8 years, from 2000 to 2006 and in 2009.
Teams always complained that it is a too expensive for them because they destroyed half of the car there and after that you have to rebuild it with so expensive parts. That's why FIA dumped it.
Today I have 2001 edition with Colin McRae as a winner of it when he drove Ford Focus WRC.
