Hyundai started testing for Monte Carlo Rallye 2019

Hyundai World Rally Team is the first official team that started testing for a new season and it's opener - Monte Carlo Rallye. This event is very tough with changing surface all the time. On a few km of special stage you have dry tarmac, black ice, snow, normal ice etc. To conclude, you can never be sure what's behind a corner.

That's why crews have gravel crews and that's the crews that go into the stage a few hours before start of it with drivers notes of it, and they write tricky corners of it. After that, they find each other on a motorway or on a phone to say to driver a new notes with changing type of surface.

In my opinion the most important thing is the testing. Lots of testing days will give drivers a confidence and the right set-up. That's why it's very difficult to drivers that don't drive often to come back to the high speed from the word start. Drivers need miles in their hands and that is not something you can argue.

Hyundai lost it's battle against M-Sport Ford and Toyota in 2018 and they had the best car at the middle point of the season. Toyota beat them completely and Ogier succeeded with winning of 6th title for him behind a wheel of Ford Fiesta WRC.

It's no doubt that Hyundai will try again hard. It's good that we have them in the championship and it's good that different drivers win the rallies through out the season. For Monte Carlo Rallye 2019 they will have three drivers: Thierry Neuville, Andreas Mikelsen and Dani Sordo.
