Volkswagen continues with tests of their Polo R5 rally car

Volkswagen had a great success with their Polo WRC car with four driver's and manufacturer's titles but also with the great driver Sebastien Ogier.

There were some other drivers around but Ogier was too quick for them.

After diesel scandal they had to 'call it a day' at the end of the 2016 season after they developed and tested the new 2017 version of the car.

But billions of dollars fines were too much for their management to stay in WRC because I heard somewhere that their budget for the WRC season was close to 100m€. And that's a lot.

Anyway, now they have a new Polo GTI in R5 specs which is still not homologated.

I expected that they will homologate it and debut it on Rally Germany which is their national event, the same as Citroen did with their C3 R5 on Rally Corsica, but rally gossip says that they will postpone it until Rally Catalunya which is in October.

They also tested a car in Mossel walley around the town of Trier where Rally Germany was based for years. Maybe that's a sign that it's still possible they will homologate the car before Rally Germany and debut it on it.

I expect that the price of the car will be somewhere around 300 000€.

Oh, yeah, the driver on the test was Dieter Depping, their long term test driver.
