The "Champion of the Century" stadium is the first FIFA stadium in Uruguay. With a capacity of 40,000 people, it houses the fans of the Peñarol team, the most successful of Uruguay and the dean of all time. In its interior it has four stands, the Henderson being the main stand, the Cataldi, however, is the one that leads to the most encouraging fans. The Peñarol stadium was built on Route 102 between Camino Mangangá and Camino de los Siete Cerros, on three 15-hectare properties in the Bañado de Carrasco area. It is located a few meters from the junction of national routes 8 and 102, a the entrance of the Zonamerica complex, and 8.5 km from the Carrasco International Airport.

The project, officially referred to as "Peñarol Stadium", had the firm "Complejo Deportivo y Cultural Peñarol S.A." as the owner of the venture. based in Luis Alberto de Herrera 1248, the only shareholder being the Peñarol club.

The stadium includes a giant transmission screen, a pitch of 105m x 68m, a conference room for 70 people, the headquarters and museum of the Peñarol Athletic Club, shops, parking lots, complying with some FIFA recommendations.

At the beginning of November 2013, the club obtained the approval of the loan from Banco República and the authorization of the Departmental Administration of Montevideo. In a ceremony held on December 19, the foundation stone of the new stadium was laid and works began in early 2014.
