The Centennial Stadium is the largest stadium in Uruguay and one of the most important stadiums in America. It hosted the first soccer world cup in 1930 and in other international championships. The Stadium is located in the center of the city of Montevideo, 4.5 kilometers from Ciudad Vieja and 4 kilometers from Punta Carretas. The Football Museum also operates in the Stadium, which includes elements of Uruguayan football history.
The Centennial Stadium is the one chosen by the Uruguayan national soccer team to play their home games and is the only stadium in the world declared World Soccer Historical Monument, by FIFA.

The Centennial is one of the most important stadiums in the sports development of South America and international football. It was built especially for the organization of the 1930 World Cup, by immigrant workers in a record time of 9 months. Its name originates from the celebration of 100 years of the oath of the first Constitution of Uruguay.

Initially, in the Centenary all the World Cup matches would be held. However, the heavy rains that hit Montevideo long before prevented the end of the construction of the stadium, so several games had to be held in Parque Central, belonging to the National Football Club, and the now disappeared Pocitos Stadium, of the Peñarol Athletic Club.

The Centenary was inaugurated on July 18, 1930, in the match between Uruguay and Peru, the 1-0 celestial team winning the victory, with a goal from Héctor "Manco" Castro. The final of the World Cup faced the Uruguay National Team with Argentina, Uruguay winning 4-2.
