DFS DRAWING BOARD - NFL Week 9 - Wide Receivers

in #sports5 years ago

A bit of an abbreviated article here for the WR position. I apologize, we are undergoing some major remodeling at my house which has stolen a ton of my time this week. But regardless, I've put in the research so it's worth sharing who my top targets are for Week 9 at the WR position. Enjoy, comment, and please share!

Each week we take a step back to review the upcoming weeks matchups and crunch the numbers to develop a series of position specific articles related to top daily fantasy sports plays. Whether you are playing on FanDuel, DrafKings, or even configuring your season long NFL lineups, these articles should serve as a reference tool and helpful guide to choosing the best players. I've shortened these articles to give you only the necessities and bottom-line reasoning as to my top choices. This is a no bullshi*t article and by that I mean the players and plays I suggest are those that I will be using in my personal lineups. Nothing is excluded. We intend to win. The goal is to make great lineups, win money, and share our success stories. If you are new to my blog or daily fantasy sports in general, I encourage you to check out my DFS Introduction post which provides some general context on what DFS is and how to play. Spoiler alert, if you like playing fantasy sports and winning money, DFS is the platform for you. With that being said, here are my top plays at the wide receiver position for Week 9. Enjoy, upvote, and comment on your weekly outlook.

WIDE RECEIVER

Adam Thielen - Minnesota Vikings

$8,900 / vs DET / MIN - 4

Thielen is absolutely on fire this year. Regardless of matchup, game flow, or anything else, the dude just keeps racking up 100 yard games. Now with 8 - 100 yard games in a row, we can safely say he is a must start anytime you can afford his salary. He has been so good that he has 5 straight games with a TD and that stat almost goes by the wayside. He is safe with both a high floor and high ceiling. Oh, and by the way, Diggs is out this week, so if it's at all possible, more targets might be coming Thielens way this week vs Detroit.

Cooper Kupp - LA Rams

$6,000 / at NO / LAR - 1

The LA/NO game is expected to shootout this weekend so it's probably a good idea to ensure you get at least some exposure. All of the Rams WRs are in play but I am most intrigued by Kupp. He is coming off what was thought to be a bad knee injury a few weeks ago but turned out to be a sprain requiring just a couple weeks sidelined. Of all receivers on LA, Kupp offers the lowest salary but just as much opportunity. Prior to injury, Kupp was playing quite well averaging 21 DK points per game. More importantly, New Orleans defense and secondary has been getting picked apart all year, especially by slot/inside receivers. That means big things in my mind for Cooper Kupp and I will be rostering him heavy this Sunday.

Devin Funchess

$5,600 / vs TB / CAR - 6.5

I mentioned Cam Newton in my QB article and Funchess is my favorite player to pair him with on Sunday. Funchess has had a great season as the defacto #1 WR on the Panthers. Outside of last week, Funchess has received plenty of opportunity and targets this season along with some solid red zone targets. He isn't exciting but offers a decent floor in a game where Newton should be throwing all over Tampa Bay defense. Tampas defense ranks towards the bottom of the league in almost every category vs the pass this season which sets Funchess up for a nice game.

Courtland Sutton - Denver Broncos

$3,900 / vs HOU / DEN - 1

It wouldn't be a Week 9 fantasy football article without mentioning Courtland Sutton. He is easily the chalkiest value WR going into Sunday. With Demaryius Thomas now traded to Houston, Sutton enters the starting lineup as an every down WR. Sanders should continue to eat a majority of the targets but with Thomas gone, plenty of targets will need divided up on the Denver offense. Sutton should see a fairly consistent target share moving forward and has shown flashes of upside in his limited usage already this season. At $3,900 it's hard to ignore Sutton this weekend vs Houston.

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS

  • Michael Crabtree
  • DJ Moore
  • Michael Thomas
  • Robert Woods
  • Mike Evans
  • Jarvis Landry

That wraps up Week 9's WR top targets. Good luck this Sunday and let's win some money!
