DFS DRAWING BOARD - NFL Week 6 - Wide Receivers

in #sports5 years ago (edited)

We are hours away from the kickoff to Week 6 of the NFL season.  This weekend is turning out to be an exciting one with a game in London as well as some big prime time games to watch later tonight and Monday.  This article will focus in on the main slate of games today and some of my favorite plays at the wide receiver position.  So lets get right into it.

Last week we highlighted Julio Jones, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Keenan Allen.  Unfortunately this was one of our more disappointing weeks in terms of WR picks as none of these guys really lit up the scoreboard.  Keenan Allen turn in a decent game with yardage and catches and Smith-Schuster was able able to find the end zone but Jones, in such a ideal matchup, got completely shut down.  It's important to learn from these mistakes and adjust.

Each week we take a step back to review the upcoming weeks matchups and crunch the numbers to develop a series of position specific articles related to top daily fantasy sports plays.  Whether you are playing on FanDuel, DrafKings, or even configuring your season long NFL lineups, these articles should serve as a reference tool and helpful guide to choosing the best players.  I've shortened these articles to give you only the necessities and bottom-line reasoning as to my top choices.  This is a no bullshi*t article and by that I mean the players and plays I suggest are those that I will be using in my personal lineups.  Nothing is excluded.  We intend to win.  The goal is to make great lineups, win money, and share our success stories. If you are new to my blog or daily fantasy sports in general, I encourage you to check out my DFS Introduction post which provides some general context on what DFS is and how to play.  Spoiler alert, if you like playing fantasy sports and winning money, DFS is the platform for you.  Also, if you haven’t already, feel free to follow my referral links and sign up for Fanduel and Draftkings.  Each provides its own set of bonuses for new users.

With that being said, here are my top plays at the wide receiver position for Week 6.   Enjoy, upvote, and comment on your weekly outlook.

WIDE RECEIVERS

Julio Jones - Atlanta Falcons

$7,900 / vs. TB/ ATL - 3

Jones killed a lot of lineups last week but I am heading right back to him in Week 6.  He is in literally the best matchup on paper for WRs - the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense.  I don't think I have to sit here and rip off Julio Jones stats or try to explain to you who he is or what he can do.  It simply boils down to the matchup and opportunity this week.  Tampa Bay has been getting destroyed through the air all year long.  They have given up an NFL worst 370 yards per game through the air to go along with an NFL worst 13 TDs.  Julio also has a very strong history vs. the Bucs.  Last season Julio put up over 200 yards receiving and 2 TDs vs. Tampa in 2 games.  In Week 12 at home, Julio put up a massive 253 receiving yards and 2 scores.  Unfortunately this season he hasn't been able to find the end zone but if there was ever an opportunity to break out, I think it is this weekend against Tampa.   We don't need a super detailed analysis.  Julio Jones is elite against the worst pass defense in the league.  Start him in all formats.

Mike Evans - Tampa Bay Buccaneers

$8,100 / at ATL / TB + 3

Flipping to the other side of the Atlanta/Tampa Bay game we have Mike Evans who is pretty much in the same ideal spot as Julio Jones.  If Tampa is the worst against the pass well Atlanta isn't too far behind.  Mike Evans has had a really great year so far putting up 426  yards of receiving to go along with 3 TDs.  His opponent, Altanta, hasn't been able to stop the pass all year.  They rank 29th in the league in terms of fantasy production to receivers, giving up an average of 29 fantasy points per game to opposing receivers.  They also surrender over 290 yards per game through the air and have already allowed 12 TDs.  A very weak pass defense vs. one of the best young receivers in the game, thats all I really need to know.  This game has an over/under of 57 and both teams have basically been in shootouts all year.  Points should be plenty and with weak pass defenses, the receivers should be eating all day.  If you can pony up the money, Evans is an easy top play this weekend.

Jarvis Landry - Cleveland Browns

$6,600 / vs. LAC / CLE - 1.5

The Cleveland Browns are actually a favorite in a game.  I honestly can't remember the last time this happened.  Regardless, if there is one player I am looking to play from their roster this weekend, it is Jarvis Landry.  He has been a solid receiver for years, especially in PPR and continues to get peppered with targets from Baker Mayfield.  Landry is coming into today's game with 3 straight 10+ target appearances.  Targets equal opportunity and for Landry, they are plenty.  His yardage totals and overall catchers per game have been down but I think he bounces back very soon.  His opponent, the Chargers, actually have been below average vs. the pass this season allowing opposing receivers to average over 27 fantasy point per game (27th in NFL).   Landry is priced very well on sites like DK and with his target totals, I suspect a big game is around the corner.  It very well could be this weekend against the Chargers.

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS

Tyler Boyd - $6,000 - Bengals

  • Boyd is having a great season for the Bengals and actually has more targets than AJ Green.  Steelers have shown an ability to shut-down #1 receivers (see Julio Week 5) but continue to give up big numbers to secondary receivers.  Boyd is priced well below Green but offers great upside considering his performance this year and opponent.

Michael Crabtree - $4,700 - Ravens

  • Great value play for a very consistent receiver.  Continue to get average around 10 targets a game.  At just $4,700, the upside is there.

DeSean Jackson - $5,900 - Buccaneers

  • Same great situation as Mike Evans but for significantly cheaper.  For a guy that has been traditionally known as boom or bust, Jackson has been pretty consistent all year.  Should see 5-8 targets against one of the worst secondaries in football.

Ryan Grant / Chester Rogers - $4,600 / $4,500 - Colts

  • TY Hilton will be sitting out this game leaving a huge void in targets and usage.  Both Grant and Rogers have seen a major uptick in usage over the last two games and that should continue this weekend.  The Colts simply can't run the ball and continue to throw at an alarming rate.  I prefer Rogers who is coming off 2 straight 10+ target games but either offers great value.
