Daily Fantasy Sports = Lost $$

If you watch sports of any kind, you will likely see a bunch of commercials for “1 Day Fantasy Sports”, such as FanDuel or DraftKings. Fantasy sports are quite popular, and these websites provided a way to participate in fantasy sports with money on the line in a more formal way, as most people had bets outside of their league when using a traditional fantasy sport website, such as ESPN or Yahoo Sports.

For arranging the competition, the website/app collects a fee, similar to the house 10% charge in traditional sports betting at casinos. This means the more completions you play and bet, the more they collect in their house fee. They do offer pretty fun spins on competitions, such as “quintuple ups” where the top 20% of people make 5x their bet (less 10% house fee of course).

Well, I have been playing “free” fantasy sports for years with my buddies, and finally decided to try out one of the daily fantasy sites, FanDuel. I enjoy sports, but do not follow them incessantly and know everything about every player/team, so I am a fantasy sports amateur for sure.

What I have come to realize is that, given the steep fees associated with the competitions, you really need to win close to win 2/3rds of the time (assuming head to head competitions or “double ups”) in order to be profitable or breaking even. Winning half of your completions will result in a 10% loss, worse when compounded.

I actually signed up for FanDuel as two of the fantasy sports I liked to play each year, golf and Nascar, were no longer offered by Yahoo Sports. This gave me a way to still participate, but I have since found that, although I am decent when playing my friends at fantasy sports, I stink when it comes to people who care a lot (or are professionals) and have money on the line. I started with $100 in my FanDuel account, and am down to $44 after playing around 1 golf or Nascar event a week for the last two months with around $10-$15 in total bets each week. At this point, I will probably keep playing until my $100 is gone, but that should be in no time flat.

Oh well, at least I have had some fun, so I will chalk this up to entertainment.

Have you tried any of the Daily Fantasy Sports sites? Did you have any success?

Brian

I think the solution to this problem is obvious...

Try the BRO Sports contests on the Steem blockchain!

We have daily, fixed-reward contests and will be rolling out other contests throughout the year, including rewards for fantasy football that easily totaled over 1000 SBD last season (which was run through my account). There’s no paying anything and everyone who participates earns something.

If I’m not mistaken, you participated in some of my contests last season. I just moved and restarted them on the official BRO Sports account: @brospn-contests.

I did participate some last year and had a good time... I will check it the BRO Sports account! Thank you for the tip and stopping by!

I am a huge fantasy football fan and have tried the FanDuel site. I really like the idea behind it and is fun but you can’t go in with any thought that you will win. There are so many participants and pros that winning is very hard. I kinda went through the same as you. I put $50 in and when I ran out I was done.

Hello friend the truth is the first time I hear about this I would have to try it to see how it goes and also see what currency they charge the fee surely in dollars

Do you get to win some $ dollars in any of these games? although the bad thing is that I can not play any of those but I would love it.
I hope everyone is well in your house @brian.rrr

In my country there are a lot of restrictions so I doubt if there is a possibility to participate in this kind of leagues, it seems interesting and a good challenge to keep your $100... but if you are about to lose them, at least enjoy the game.

Oh heck nah...... I don't know enough to even compete. I will definitely lose all my money.

Yeah, sometimes we lost dollars on daily fantasy sports but real sports lover face it out and try again. Though i have no experience but i see some people to be successful and some are unsuccessful. Anyway i only enjoy the game.
