In Pictures - Stadion Feijenoord, Rotterdam
Beer goes best in tandem with some soccer, so they say. I’d disagree, any excuse to drink is a good one.
Stadion Feijenoord is better known by its nickname De Kuip which translated means the Tub. It is a sports grounds on the rim of Rotterdam in Netherlands. It’s pretty old, dating back to 1937. It hosts a local club of the same name. It is named after the neighbourhood.
Capacity was somewhat bigger in the past, but when they changed the arrangement to be all seating it came down to about 51,000 people. It has an extensive history and you can learn more about it in the adjacent small museum.
There are reports that beer and smoking is allowed and if you are seated near the Vak S section you can visit something like a “nightclub” downstairs which is popular at half time. But be careful as it can get rowdy.
Fans are as fans go, crazy for football and pretty noisy. It’s not my cup of tea but I can imagine people really enjoy the collective experience. However, if it is an excuse for drinking, I’m all up for a social few hours, even if it is a football match.
