Each year in the second half of January when the days are still short here in the Northern hemisphere and the weather cold we need something to get us through that period. And suddenly there it is. You turn on the television and the blue sky and bright light of Melbourne in full summer splashes into your living room

The Australian Open has begun!

Here is our own Kiki Bertens in her first match today in a sizzling 34 degrees Celsius. Oh, could I only be there now to support her with a nice cold drink in my hand.

As said the Australian Open with its blue skies takes us trough the January period and we know spring is not that far away anymore. My wife loves to look at Nadal - for reasons unknown to me - but I prefer Sharapova, her russian look, her going into each point as if her life depends on it. In fact that is also how Nadal plays his games.

So the next couple of weeks it is Australian Open for me a couple of hours a day depending who is playing. I love the tournament and the pictures and it reminds me of our three months trip trough this continent in 2010.
I'll be back! And that time we will go for the Open as well.
