Match Preview: England Vs India 1st ODI

in #sports6 years ago (edited)

It's still the early days in the long Indian tour to England. India won the last t20 quite comfortably and thereby clinched the series 2-1. Rohit Sharma was named Man of the Series.

There is difficult to choose one team who has got the upper hand over other. England have won 10 out of their last 12 series while India have won their last 10. Although England and India will miss the services of Chris Woakes and Jasprit Bumrah respectively.

Going back to the 2014 tour, India won the series 3-1. India also won the bilateral series 2-1 when they hosted England in 2017. But times have changed as this is quite a strong English team we have seen.

As seen during the t20 series, conditions are quite hot and humid compared to the expected weather. So the pitches at Trent Bridge, Lord's, Headingley(venues for 3 ODIs) will be drier. As a result spinners from both the sides would come into play. There will be hardly any assistance for the pacers throwing a whole lot of challenge to them.

England team: There will be ongoing thoughts on how to fit Ben Stokes in the playing 11 as they won the Australia series 5-0 without him. Root must be a sure starter. Mark Wood should join alongside David Willey, Liam Plunkett to complete the pack attack.

Indian team: All eyes must be on Bhuvneshwar Kumar who didn't play tbe last t20 owing to back stiffness. If he misses out, Shardul Thakur is likely to play, with Umesh Yadav as frontline pacers.

Date and Time: 12 July , 5 PM IST, 12:30 PM local

Venue: Trent Bridge, Nottingham

My take for the first ODI: India start as favourites.

Yes, this should be a very even contest across the 5 matches. England have made very big scores at Trent Bridge recently including their world record against Australia earlier in the summer. They enjoy batting their. i would expect a game with lots of runs!
