Borussia Dortmund - who is behind the new success?

Matthias Sammer and Sebastian Kehl are the guarantors of success in the background

Germany's Football Community is happy - there are sign the dominance of Bayern Munich might not be as clear as in the last years. But why is that? Only the Bayern crisis or a stronger Borussia Dortmund. Matthias Sammer is for sure a reason with his attitude and ability to manage expectations and drive a team to its maximum performance - even he is "only" an external advisor.

It had been turbulent in the months before. Ousmane Dembele had gone on strike for FC Barcelona. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang liked to jet to Milan and didn't take the time for training and meetings too seriously before switching to FC Arsenal in winter. And with Peter Bosz and Peter Stöger, two coaches acted with more or less great success, before Lucien Favre came in the summer.

BVB squad strengthened with pinpoint accuracy

In this phase Watzke and Zorc looked closely and learned their lessons. Success often comes from failure. Or vice versa - as Sammer likes to emphasize.

In addition to Sammer another key personality as been installed with former player Sebastian Kehl as the new head of the license player department. Kehl provides the necessary internal positive atmosphere and as a result the discipline is mich better as last season.

Kehl played in Dortmund and after his retirement travelled the world, studied sports management at UEFA, obtained a Trainer A licence and worked in the new DFB Academy for so-called player mentoring and three years later is back already in Dortmund. He seems to be on a good path to even re-integrate Mario Götze. Great to see that rival Bayern is looking jealously at their re-strengthened Borussia. Kehl has strengthened professionalism in the club with his guideline: "ambitious, passionate and together".

I'm really happy that BVB is doing this good so far. Not only they're first, they're also playing attractively. I really hope they can keep their current form as I'm not a fan of the FC Bayern.

My expectations weren't that high considering Favre was their new coach and that they lost Bats. I have to confess that I don't know many of their newest players, I lost interest in the Bundesliga because of the dominance of FC Bayern in the last seasons

Me too - awesome performance
