Handball World Championship starting today, and great matches in the Asian Cup

in #sports5 years ago

January 2019 is a great month for sports fans. I have already written quite some articles about the Asian Cup, and today I am really curious to see if India can keep up the great pace from their first game.

Sunil Chhetri was the big star in Indias first match, and today at 17.00 (CET) he gets the chance to impress again as they will play against United Arab Emirates, a team that opened the tournament with a draw against Bahrain. Also coming up today is the match between Jordan and Syria, and I am very excited and curious to see if Jordan can keep up their great play from the first game which they won against Australia. If they should manage to win today, they have actually secured themselves a spot in the knockout stage already. What a tournament!

What about the Handball World Championship 2019 for men?

I know, few people pay attention to handball, and that can be seen by the lack of TV companies that will broadcast the event worldwide. But still, there are 24 nations participating in the Handball World Championship 2019 which will be arranged in Denmark and Germany. Both nations are outsiders that can easily end up winning the tournament, but the big favorites are, of course, France, who have won the last World Championships for men.

But, I am a big fan of handball as well, and it is so exciting because things change really fast, there are lots of goals, and often the outsiders are capable of surprising the big teams. In other words, there are at least 6-7-8 nations that can easily end up winning this tournament, something that makes it really interesting and fun to watch.

The opening match will be played today around 18.00 between Korea and Germany. Did I just write a mistake? Isn't it South Korea? No, it isn't. In this tournament, the unified Korea will get on the pitch together, and thus the match will be played between Korea and Germany (instead of South Korea vs. Germany).

The other match tonight will be played between the other host nation, Denmark, and Chile. I know little about Chile in handball. They are good at football for men, but I have my doubts about their handball skills, so I guess this should end up with a victory for the Danes.

Are you a fan of handball? Are you planning on streaming the matches from the Handball World Championship online? Which team will you cheer for? Which team do you believe will win?
