in #sports5 years ago

The Champions League King lived up to his name, as Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick to erase the first leg deficit, and knock out Atletico Madrid. Juventus had a mountain to climb after going down 2-0 in the first leg back in Madrid. After having just scored 1 goal in the Champions League this season, many were doubting Ronaldo, some said that age was catching up to him. He proved every doubter wrong in this match.

Ronaldo scored the first goal with a header in the 27th minute from a cross by Federico Bernadeschi. The momentum shifted to Juventus, as Atletico Madrid were clearly not in the game. It was 1-0 at half time, after the restart Ronaldo scored his second goal again with a header in the 49th minute. The goal was saved by Oblak, but with goal line technology the goal was awarded.

Juventus have now pulled level, as the game was coming to an end, it was looking to go to extra time, but in the dying seconds of the second half Bernadeschi was nudged over by Angel Correa inside the Atletico box and referee Bjorn Kuipers pointed straight to the spot. Ronaldo then took the penalty and slotted it with confidence sealing the win and progress to the Champions League quarter finals.
