Done with the D-backs

Yasiel Puig came off the DL to spark a 6-3 victory over the D-backs and avoid a sweep in the abbreviated two game set in Chavez Ravine last night. The Dodgers are merely 4-8 against the team that has an eight game lead over them in the division. In fact, 12 of their first 36 have been against their desert rivals. They won’t meet again till August 30th.

It was Justin Turner bobble head giveaway night but it was Nick Ahmed who stole the show in the first with an inside the park home run. It was the first against the Dodgers in six years and put Patrick Corbin and the D-backs up 1-0 early.

Both starting pitchers, D-backs Patrick Corbin and Dodgers Alex Wood, would be on cruise control till the fifth when Corbin would load the bases and Dodgers manager Dave Roberts put in a pinch hitter for Wood. Corbin got out of the bases loaded one out jam with a Kike Hernandez fly out to center and a Matt Kemp fielder’s choice to third. Kemp went 0-3 on the night ending his 8 game hit streak.

In the 6th, the Dodgers would threaten with the bases loaded again this time against reliever Fernando Salas. The Dodgers would capitalize with a sac fly, a hit by a pitch and a wild pitch. The three runs put the Dodgers up 4-1.

The Diamondbacks would answer back in the top of the seventh when Devin Descalso doubled into the gap then took third on a wild pitch. After Ahmed took a walk, MVP candidate Paul Goldschmidt singled Descalso in. Ahmed would later come into score on a Pollock grounder to short.

The Silver Fox, Chase Utley, would later ice the game with a pinch hit double in the eighth to score two putting the Dodgers up 6-3. Utley is 7 for 11 in pinch hit situations this year. Closer Kenley Jansen would pitch a perfect inning in the ninth to stop the Dodgers 3 game-losing streak.

Everybody went home happy except for probably the Diamondbacks. I gave my bobble head to a kid but that kid will probably just sell it on Ebay.
