My Football 1990 Sticker Album

in #sportstalk5 years ago (edited)

Football (or Soccer to some of you) is my game and something I've played and watched since I was a lad. I must have been in my final year of junior school/first year of high school when this album was released. At that point in my life, if you didn't collect football stickers, you weren't really into football.

In 1989/90, top level football in England was rarely televised. I remember watching the one game each week at my grandparents, usually eating overly salted cheese on toast - not something mum would allow.

It wasn't until the early 90's when SKY television came along and with a huge input of money, changed the face (or wages) of football as we know it. It's interesting to think that none of the following players were on more than 10,000 pounds a week, and I remember my dad telling me once, 'there's no money in football' - turns out he wasn't always right.

Alright, here's the album - every sticker. I remember throwing the duplicates I had up in the air in the playground - I hope I gave my brother the cards he was missing first, although I don't recall that happening :)

This album was once my pride and joy, taking months to fill with all my pocket money and plenty of trading at school.

I think some of you know my team, who have not won a premier league since the younger looking chap singled out in the images above has left the club. The club being Manchester United of course, and that photo was taken 2 seasons before he won his first title with the Red Devils. By then I was 13 years old or so and too busy with high school for stickers, but I'm glad I've still got this album to look back on.

Would I sell it for 464 STEEM? Nope! I'm holding for now :)

Cheers

Asher

You filled the book!! I had 6 missing from my world cup 90 and I still have nightmares about it. You know you are old when there aren't any flex!

Filled it!

Italia 90? Yeah, I have that one filled but it is in a suitcase in Spain. I had two missing for Italia 90 and bought the last 2 Swedish players on eBay a few years ago for a couple of pounds - bargain!

Wow this is cool as heck @abh12345. What a fun hobby that is. I figured you were going to pull something like this in the link. This is definitely impressive. Pannini did the exact same thing with Major League Baseball with a nice run in the 1980's and into the 1990's... and those were plenty collectible too. Thanks for sharing I love this kind of stuff.

No worries :) Yeah Pannini were the Dons of stickers around that time, and prices were reasonable too. A few years later it was a pound a pack and there was no way I could afford to collect. Cheers!

Wow amazing remember shinys? I remember swapping them in the playground. Also Channel 4 gazette football italia. Those were the good old days. I had copies of shoot magazine lost em long time ago gutted

I sure do and spent many breaks shouting 'got', 'got', 'got', 'need!'.

Still got some magazines from the early-mid 90's - Man U were dominating and so it was a great time to be in high school :)

Got got need need. I was gonna mention that but thought it was a northern thing and no one would get it lol

Damn you man. This means I will have to climb into my Mum's attic when I go back to the Uk next and find my SOccer Stars 77/78 completed book, the only one I ever filled!! No self-adhesive in those days, you had to lick the damn things!!

77/78, the season before I was born. Are Leeds in that book then? ;)

Pretty brutal sounding without the cards being sticky - that book should be worth a few quid though now?

Keep digging.....;-)
Not worth more than about 30quid last time I looked and made worse by the fact I wrote my name on the front lol

hahahaha :D

Schoolboy error that one!

Damn, that booklet is priceless, don't sell that man! I have a few of those from the Belgian leagues from the 80's and 90's too... God, I love that!

Not yet it isn't, but maybe in another 20/30 years I might get a good deal for it. Or i'll just hand it down to grand-kids who'll probably knacker it and bin it :)

Show us your stickers!

Ok, I will tonight! I have a lovely one from the World Cup of 1986 where Belgium was the surprise of the tournament. Sadly it isn't complete!

Nice. I don't know where my Mexico 86 one went but do remember Enzo Scifo being really good for Belgium. Of course that was Englands world cup, until Maradona...... you know the rest :)

Yep, and ... in 1990 we played England in the 1/8 final... England didn't touch a ball, we hit the post like 3 or 4 times... And then there was David Platt. That I will never forget! :-)

From a Paul Gascoigne free-kick late in the game - I remember that one too :)

Sweet collection dude! I remember collecting these as a kid. Was crazy about them back then.

Thanks!

If you were a collector then you are a true footy fan in my book :)

I was back in the day but I lost all of the albums moving apartments. Cringing even thinking about it when I see how much it's worth now. Same with my Pokemon cards. Somehow managed to lose a collection of more than 200 gold cards probably worth many thousands of dollars now, don't even want to check the prices.

Nightmare! Yeah I wouldn't look for the value of those cards. Hopefully places like this can recoup some of those loses to ease the pain.

Tell me about it. Don't even have to look; already know they would be worth more than my main steem account which is frustrating af.

Many would think that the Rangers team was the historical dream team of always :O)

That album only shows how old you are. Lol!
