Duterte's personal watch in Gilas opener vs Italy, a morale booster for PH team - Sen. Go
Sen. Bong Go believes that the watching of watching President Rodrigo Duterte personally will be the "morale booster" in the opening game of Gilas Pilipinas against Italy in the upcoming FIBA World Cup.
Go's announcement comes a day after President Duterte's announcement that Gilas will have a hard time meeting with one of the European powerhouse teams.
“The problem is Italy being the first opponent. Nothing. Nothing against. We are not there. Let's just bet on China. Nothing. Ay sus. You're still corny. We really don't have any, ”Duterte said in a speech Tuesday.
"We will lose here in Italy, they are composed of big guys in there."
Go said President Duterte received an invitation from Chinese President Xi Jinping to attend the opening ceremony of the World Cup in Beijing on August 30.
“I urge President Duterte to go,” the senator said. "This is going to be a morale booster for the players."
The president will then head to Foshan to watch the first game of world no. 31 Gilas.
According to lawmaker Gilas' special adviser, the match-up in Italy is important as it will determine whether the Pinoy team can move on to the next round of the competition.
Contrary to President Duterte's statement, Go is confident that Gilas has a chance against Italy.
“We're fast and we're not smart. The Filipino is good. I, I believe in our team, ”Go said. "You know, we can start by," Go said.
I find this reverse psychology. I know our president is secretly supporting our national squad. Hopefully, the president would watch the games of Gilas and I think it would give them morale to play better and outlast the opposing players.
