Gilas lost to Congo, 71-82
Gilas Philippines lost their second clash with Congo, 71-82, in the Tournament of Malaga held at the Jose Maria Martin Carpena Arena, Spain yesterday.
Robert Bolick wasted 21 points and 6 rebounds after being beaten by the Congo, which they had previously beaten by 22 points in Guadalajara.
Gilas had hoped to take the lead in the 4th quarter after chasing 60-63, but the Congo led with a 13-1 run and outscored the Philippines by 15 points.
Ron Mvouika led the way with 8 points on the crucial stretch, including two big three-pointers and finished with 21 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists for the Congo win.
Andray Blatche scored 15 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for the Philippines while CJ Perez contributed 11 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists.
Paul Lee added 8 points while Mark Barroca and Japeth Aguilar finished with 6 points.
Gilas added only nine of his 11 players since Gabe Norwood had not played due to an injury while on August 24, Kiefer Ravena's FIBA suspension will end.
Defeated, the Philippines could not face powerhouse Spain, who crushed Ivory Coast, 79-62, in their respective battles.
