Non è una novità ormai che il club bianconero stia cercando di vendere l'attaccante juventino, considerato un fuoriclasse, ma nell'ultimo anno, in coincidenza con l'arrivo di Ronaldo, ha perso un po' di lucidità sotto la rete avversaria.

In accordo con il suo agente Paratici, si era già tentato la cessione con il Manchester United e Tottenham, ma oltre all'ingaggio ed al costo del cartellino, bisogna considerare anche i diritti d'immagine del giocatore. Motivo per cui è saltata la trattativa con i club inglesi.
