The part 2 of this weekend’s premier league matchday 8 has just been completed and I will say, the results today was a variety of different outcomes and emotions for the fans. Two of the stand out fixtures were the Manchester City vs Wolves match and the Newcastle vs Man United as the both Manchester clubs all end their eight game of the season in defeat.

Southampton vs Chelsea was one of the exciting fixtures this weekend as we saw the Chelsea youngsters prove what they are capable of and the qualities they’ve got. Chelsea have been in good form in their last few games, coming from a really crucial away 3 win against Lille in the champions league and now another crucial away win against southampton. The away form of Chelsea this season have been pretty much impressive apart from the loss in their first game of the season against Manchester United. Frank Lampard is beginning to see some of his ideas and works in training come off during matches and he will be very pleased to how the team has performed in these past 8 games including the ones they’ve lost. Things continues to get worse for Southampton as they have now on 3 consecutive losses in row. They were clearly beaten by a young and strong Chelsea side at home as they hope to turn things around as quickly as possible, possibly as soon as the premier league resumes after the upcoming international break.

It was really a tough game for Chelsea and a hard earned 3 points even though the score line makes it look like an easy game. We all expected Chelsea to do the job against Southampton, however, Southampton made it really difficult for Chelsea in some parts of the game especially in the first few minutes of the first half. This win makes it back to back league wins for Chelsea with a current form of 4 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses in 8 games played this season.

In this match, we saw both teams set up in a similar 4-3-3 formation. Southampton actually started the game as the better side in the first few minutes of the game but weren’t able to do anything meaningful with the control they had. Chelsea on the other hand slowly kicked off into gear when they got the first goal and from there, dominate most aspects of the game and should have scored more if they were more clinical. Aside from some sloppy mistakes made by the Chelsea defense, Southampton barely had any solid goal scoring chance throughout the game.

Tammy Abraham who is in fine form this season was on the scoresheet yet again this season with a clever finish which was decided through goal line technology. Mason Mount another player from the Chelsea academy flourishing this season scored his fourth goal of the season to double Chelsea’s lead. A switch off moment by Chelsea meant that cleansheet was impossible as they conceded to make the score 1-2. However, Ngolo Kante restored Chelsea’s 2 nil lead with a very good strike which was deflected into the net, to put Chelsea 1-3 up in the first half. Second half substitutes Pulisic and Batshuayi combined beautifully to allow Batshuayi score the fourth goal of the match. This win pushes Chelsea up the table as they are now just 2 points below Manchester City.

A big Hats off to Frank Lampard and the work he is doing with the young players

Yeah. Its amazing that their potential were maximized. Even though great players like Hazard, Courtois, and David Luiz departed, Chelsea still is doing pretty good. Lampard showed his true qualities.
