Unfortunate Accidents
Each sport is dangerous in its own way. Ok, maybe chess is not so dangerous but maybe it's not a sport either. Who knows? Some say it can be considered sport, I however have a different opinion but it's not important right now.
Accidents can happen all the time and some of them are really ugly with lifelong consequences. Motor sports are famous that way. If you're watching F1 or any other motor sports most likely you've witnessed some as there's no way you can avoid them. At that speed the smallest mistake can lead to an ugly accident where you can lose your life.
I still remember Ayrton Senna's last race in Italy, at Imola. What a shocking event.
I remember how anxious I was to watch the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio. Gymnastics is my favorite sport but besides that I have a long list of sports that I like. Men gymnastics was the first we got to see and in the first hour, during qualification, French gymnast Samir Ait Said broke his leg.
It was the most shocking accident I've ever seen in gymnastics. Out of respect ant to protect readers, I'm not going to post any photos of videos about accidents. After this unfortunate accident, I couldn't watch any gymnastics, just couldn't bring myself together to give it a try.
Sam Cerio, an American gymnast competing for Auburn University broke both her legs in a competition. During the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, South Korean weightlifter Sa Jae-hyouk dislocated his elbow. Greg Louganis, the American diver slammed his head on the board during the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul.
I believe safety in sport is very important, there are new regulations every year but still. To win a race or a competition, you have to be better than you were yesterday, you have to show something new, or be faster and athletes are pushed to the limit. Records are broken one after another.
Maybe I'm repeating myself but at some point there will be a stopping point as the human body has limited capabilities. Motor sports are different as good part of the results are due to engineering but that doesn't mean it's always safe.
Gymnasts, athletes on the other hand will be pushing themselves harder and harder, inventing new things to be better and the level of danger they are exposed day by day is rising.
