The internet came to revolutionize many things, including the world of video games. The competitions, which used to be of man against the machine, are now man-against-man competitions through an online universe. Here fantasy and mythological worlds merged with technology to create a new world: that of eSports.

What was born as a hobby that led people to play at Atari or Nintendo in the 80s, was far from becoming what electronic sports are today, this mega trend that has become famous in every corner of the world. More than 30 years of history and a lifestyle that has become a business that moves millions of dollars worldwide, that is electronic sports.

The history of this universe has a chronology that begins with the Internet revolution, people began to be part of the interconnected world of online video games. In the year 2000, creating a character, advancing in levels and acquiring skills and abilities in front of a game began to be a lifestyle; the popular online game servers in the United States, Europe and Asia were migrating to Latin America so that the gamers' community will adopt them and the fever for eSports that have taken much more strength today. World of Warcraft, Dragon Nest, StarCraft and Dota 2 were already very popular by 2005 among the gamer community worldwide and in the case of Colombia, role-playing games became electronic sports and had a growth of 500% in the last 10 years, according to Riot Games.

The Professional Video Games League (LVP) of Spain arrived in Colombia in 2018 to boost the professionalization of this online entertainment field in the country, through the creation of the Golden League. Upon arrival, the teams were summoned, who had to present a strategic business and financing plan, as well as prepare at the business level. Beyond looking for teams that met to play on weekends, the Golden League seeks to benefit the entire ecosystem of electronic sports.

This 2019 started the Golden League and year after year the local League of Legends championship will be played. The best team of the year can compete for a place in the Movistar Latin America League, which is a historic opportunity for the Colombian teams that stand out in this game. According to data managed by the Professional Video Games League (LVP) of Colombia, the electronic sports industry accounted for profits of US $ 900 million in 2018 and expects to reach US $ 1.6 billion in 2021 worldwide.
